Thanks guys. Got all the parts over to my house now to get things cleaned up etc. Progress on the house is slowing right down and I plan to spend nights in the basement working on car stuff.

It's amazing what a few extra sets will do. I had to drop my engine in from the top then bring in the trans from the bottom because my friends suck! (actually they were all at work, I didn't want to wait )

I probably spent close to $2,500 on doing mine.
That was with new cap/rotor/waterpump/billet oil pump pieces.
And some machine work on the heads.
To do it right it costs money though.

Im reusing lots of stuff since it has either been replaced previously or works perfectly.

Here are some pics with a valve cover off. While it looks bad, its pretty decent for 177k miles.

What did piss me off, was the metal chips on the trans shaft as well as the look of my flywheel. Did a burnout with Joel in October and it slipped...may have to get that taken care of.

Do everything that you want to ever possibly do to it now while it's out.

I really wish I would of done a tubular k while it was out. Is it still possible? Yes, but would of been much nicer then.

Agree with Mike on this ^^^. Besides the weight save, you won't believe the extra working room you have under there.

The shavings on the input shaft are probably from the flywheel on that burnout. I thought you said they were inside the trans... I wouldnt be too worried about this. The clutch just slipped real bad once, so what we see here at lewst makes some sense.

I can't remember if you said the trans has been freshened up or not. Slight up/down/side to side play of the input shaft is OK but in/out isn't. If it's over .003" I'd shim it or look into an overhaul

Got the engine tore down some more. I expected it to be pretty messy but this is much worse than expected. My motor was a ticking time bomb. Gunk, sludge, etc everywhere. Looking at a full rebuild for this engine to be correct. Prepare yours self, this is what a 177,000 mile all original motor looks like...
