Had the coil and ICM tested, both were good. Got a different coil and ICM off my dads truck, no dice. Mine worked perfect on the suburban.

Took the opti off and put my old, malfunctioning opti on....the car fires up. Runs like total shit, but it does fire up.

Add a new opti to my list.

No idea how in the hell this thing died. Kinda disappointed. No oil on the opti, coolant or anything. Still looks brand new.

Chandler Motorsports. I wouldnt call it "off brand" but its not an AC Delco.

I wish someone who knew electronics really well would take the time to make a writeup to diagnose exactly what causes these optisparks to fail. There has to be a visual signature that's left behind when it fails... It has to be hella frustrating that yours looks perfectly fine yet it doesn't work anymore.

I couldnt agree more. I just dont understand what made it go. O well, at this point the motors coming apart anyways so its just part of the process.

I wouldn't mind dissecting this one.

My guess is the optical sensor (either emitter or receptor side) just died on this one, plain and simple.

I was going to take it apart but I dont have the little tool that I made. Need to make another one.

I think it may be on warranty.

Cam kit came in today. Pretty excited about a bunch of stuff that I cant use for a while. lol.
I think this will make my car pretty fun and still have a bit of reliability.

This weekend the next phase of this project will start. Dropping the k member out and getting the boat anchor onto an engine stand. While everything's apart I am doing lots of cleaning, painting, powder coating, repair, and upgrades. Trying to take some miles off my car/motor before we install the cam kit.

Any advise?

Take your time, make sure stuff is disconnected, and watch when the the body is being lifted off the kframe for stuff that might snag.

Label EVERYTHING. Especially any bolts/small brackets/misc. hardware you remove. I personally like to put as many bolts/nuts as possible back in the original part they were removed from to reduce confusion.

^ label your wiring with a small piece of blue tape and a marker. label all nuts/bolts or put them back into the piece it came out of. take your time, when pulling the engine go slowly, if any bolts/nuts etc look like they will put up a fight let them soak a day or two before you get around to taking them out. etc etc

I know NOTHING about LT1s, but I am surprised that you have to do rockers for a cam that small. That's kind of crazy.
