Were they in good cond? I want to solve brakes on this car once and for all.

They were off an automatic car so they literally were never used.

Rear brakes are supplement to the front brakes.
If anything I'd just change the front brakes.

Could be an oiling problem.
What was done to the block?
Could have blockage in the oiling passages.

Keep in mind the clearance issues with lca relocation brackets... Thats why im leaving my rear brakes stock.

Im not ware of clearance issues. We had no issues with Scotts car

You tossed out the backing plates for LS style?!?! I will take them! (If Nate doesn't)

Front brakes are already LS1 style and they are working perfect. Im only changing the rear brakes for the ebrake system.
The block was cleaned and lightly honed. Everything appears to be oiling correctly now.

Wish I lived closer to the east side at times like this. Once I get the brakes swaped around I am going to drive it and see if the noise gets louder or changes.

I can say that I hate how my tune leaves the motor reved up when I push the clutch in. The car doesnt go to a true idle until I come to a complete stop.

Ion should be able to change that for you. Thats how it is stock, GM did that for good reason... Less rev matching required for novice drivers. It is lame on a cammed car when you want to hear some lope though

we did not throw out backing plates, sorry for the confusion guys, just removed the rear e-brake drum and the lever, the adjustable thing (no idea what its called) is cast into the backing plate so couldn't remove that.

Well came to the conclusion I am keeping my LT1 rear brakes because....traction control. Really dont want to go through the BS of removing the reflector rings from the axel shaft so I got a new caliper tonight and ceramic brake pads. Heres where my confusion comes in.

Does the spring and vibration damper bracket release the brake when I release the ebrake handle?

Id like to throw them on without the bracket but it seems like its important.

Next up is how to get the damn thing off. It is currently stuck on. I cant tear these up too bad or I lose my $35 core.

Any ideas?

You do know those rings just pop off with a prybar right? We just popped ours off last weekend. Took 5 minutes.

last time we had to take one off it had to be heated and beat off.

Was yours pressed in?

at this point I dont know if its a lifter tick or something as simple as an exhaust leak. But yes, the motor makes a noise when warmed up.

do you need stock lt1 rear brakes? i have both sides in good condition that i'm going to throw away pretty soon, i got everything if you want it

just bought a new caliper that Im going tog et finished up this morning

Ours came off easily and yes they were pressed on by my Dad when I built my rear, little work with a large pry bar and they came right off, but mine didn't have anywhere near the time or heat cycling I'm sure yours have been through. When we removed them off the 10 bolt axles I know we built a jig on our table to get them off.

Got the new caliper on, breaks work as expected. Still have a small issue with the ebrake, its not releasing like it sound on the new caliper. I think it may be the cable.

Detailed the car up real nice with Scott. Feels good to have a nice clean car again.

I also tightened some of the header bolts...I think they could be my issue. Need to drive it some more but it instantly sounded better on my first small drive.
