ok well im not sure what ur little black box is supose to do, but if what im seeing in ur vids is correct one time u have resistance on the vats wires then the next u dont, is this correct. im saying the only way i personally know of bypassing the vats is with a resistor at the lock cylinder wires, i work at a dealership and we do the same thing as puting a resistor in but with our gm box that is selectable, and im sure you can get a resistor for under 10 at radio shack, it just has to be the same resistance as the chip in ur key. we see alot of these locky cylinder wires break on this style of vats. since you already have the wires cut down there i would invest in a resistor befor i went and paid 84.

The 'box' generates the KEY OK signal that the BCM sends to the PCM. Or at least thats what it is supposed to do. We have tried the resistors and they did not work.
This is the exact one that I have: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-VA...Q5fAccessories
I shouldnt even need a key, key switch, or bcm for the injector part of the system. I know it is soldered perfectly, on the correct wire.
Any other ideas?1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - 6 Speed

Dustin: that trick only works if there is in fact a break at the wires leading to the lock cylinder. The wires can still break past the connector going to the BCM or the BCM can fail.
That being said I got my bypass module for $20 shipped and it just shipped yesterday, it's all I'm waiting on. Besides that box Nate there's gotta be another one somewhere...keep looking I guess. If you really want to drive it though you can run a hot wire to your starter solenoid then to a starter switch (completely seperate rocker to operate the starter) then use that to start the car when you turn the ignition on. Should work.
I don't think I have time to make it out to Olivet this week unfortunately.
Used to own a Firebird.

I think you for all your help. I wish my problems were simpler
From Rob at Shbox.com - "If you cut a wire at the BCM, it should have been at pin 11 [C11] of
connector 3 [C3], like the schematic shows. To try to do the permanent
ground to the TDR that is referred to on my web page, you would then ground
the yellow/black wire that is not going into the BCM, but the side going
toward the TDR. If you cut something else, it's wrong."
I know for a fact I didnt cut pin 11. Guess we will try that after work today.1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - 6 Speed

I will say it again< I think your problem is not the bypass or the resister mod. you need to take schematic and a volt meter and follow out to see if start relay is picking. One side of start relay is +12 and comes through gear shift neutral switch or clutch all the way in switch. the key bypass module and vat module supply ground to the relay you need both. Find the relay I think its in the drivers side kick panel. Start there and follow back to get both grd and +12. Note (to measure for grd you connect the + on vom to 12 v.)sigpic

Larry, can you take a picture of where the starter relay is?
I have lots advice but the starter relay is like non existant on LT1 cars. If I knew where it was, I would try it. Schematics do not show the physical location.
Vinnie, I am truly jealous of your quick fix. lol.1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - 6 Speed

I found the ignition relay. Actually my friend with a Mustang GT found it but I soldered back all my other attempts and cut the yellow and black wire, grounded the TDR side out and it then just clicked. Knew the battery was dead so charged it up and she came to life.
Unlike the rest of the internet, I am going to make a detailed write up of what I did with pictures so average people can do this.
I knew it was easy but damn, once we got the TDR down it took all of 3 min to do. If you take your glove box down all the way, there are two gray dots, on the other side of the top grey dot is the TDR.
Going to wash my car since its been out side for over a month.
Still have some kind of an issue with a leaking water pump(I think) but after the car gets up to 150 ish it runs fine.
