  • Derek had good luck with the LS1 e-bay stainless steel headers. Just make sure you get stainless steel... any other header is just not worth it.

          • Machine shop called me yesterday and said he wanted to check out the pistons, so I dropped off the pistons today and he also said he wanted to see the caps. Took the caps and also the crank over to get checked out. He said he will most likely hone it and call it a day. His dad said the pistons look like they are in great shape. I asked what I was at price wise, he said I should be good and it will cost next to nothing. So im pretty stoked about that! The work deals with comp cams and he is going to get a quote on a cc503. Oh, he said he got the cam bearings in too.

Other than that I have been just powder coating here and there.... some pics!

Im not sure yet. He is going to get me a quote on the cam. Cheapest I have seen is around 240 to 250. He said he can set the cam in for me too. Also I told him I wasnt in a rush for it since he is giving me a pretty good deal. Also it gives me time to save up more funds.

                      • Nice thread! I've been sitting here for the past hour reading the whole thing. I actually learned some valuable information reading this too. It's nice to see that there are other people here that are more than willing to give information when someone asks a question. I hope you can get this thing finished soon. Also I am looking forward to more pictures.

Thank you! I would like to thank everyone so far that has helped me or has given any type off feedback so far, good or bad. I have been feeling depressed/stressed lately with school and work and it seems like updating this thread is the only thing that makes me happy other than the gf that is gt gvsu for school. Thanks again everyone!

                          • Hang in there Michael, I know its tough because now most of what is left is going to cost $. Just have to spread out the progress to match to pocket book. I did not do much to my engine when I had it out because of cost, I stayed stock, with just headers. Next step will be cam, valve spring, roller rockers, because I know bottom is good. Thats probably 1-2 years out.
I was told once NEVER rebuild top of engine without doing bottom. Restored/increased compression and power will toast your bearings very fast.
Your doing a good job so far just stay on target.

                            • Great... Dont ya just love bad news? The shop called me today and said im just out of spec. He said he can get me a price on stock pistons that are .020 over. He said they will/can run around 200-300 bucks, and who knows how much in labor.

On the bright side he hasnt checked my crank out but it seems to be okay but he was going to check it out for sure.

FML, suggestions other than bust out the check book?

                              • Bust out the check book or find another LT1 block.
