i have started reading this interesting project the other day. Like so many other project threads I have read on here since becoming a member often times other forum members refer to how well done Joel's car is and how well it performs, and mostly how ell matched the components are. When comments are called for it often seems that Joel's advice is balanced and well thought out. I am not a mechanic but I am looking to learn in my old age so I take the project information from the members seriously. Since I am looking to start a build I would like it if Joel could post exactly the components he used in his build: engine, trans, rear etc so I could use it as a guide. It would also be helpful if he could give a "rough estimate" of what the components cost and if known what labor would be. thanks

Out with the old and in with the new.
We adjusted it with the suspension loaded, took it for a drive and it went back to it's original position. Going to adjust it again.

you have to have the tires off the ground to adjust it so the rear can move from side to side, you should be able to watch it move.Doing less with more

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I had jackstands under the axle. It moved when we adjusted it for sure.Originally posted by DETROITMUSCLE View Postyou have to have the tires off the ground to adjust it so the rear can move from side to side, you should be able to watch it move.2002 Z28 Camaro A4

not sure how that happened, you still had all the weight on the axle. The axle needs to be unloaded in order to move.Last edited by DETROITMUSCLE; August 28th, 2012, 09:05 AM.Doing less with more

I guess that makes sense but I would assume its easier to move the 200lb axle than it would be to shift the entire body, guess not.Originally posted by c0ncEpT View PostYou are suppose to adjust it with the tires on the ground. The body will actually move over the axle.Doing less with more

FWIW here's what I did...
1. Jack the car up and place jack stands under the axle tubes
2. Remove wheels
3. Attach a plumb-bob to each fender so the string hangs in-line with the axle tube
4. measure off the axel to the string and adjust the PHB until you get the same measurement on both sides
5. Lock PHB nuts into place to keep from free spinning and adjusting
Also, not sure if you PHB is on-car adjustable like mine, but what you need to do is loosen the nuts at each end of the adjustment joint and use a wrench on the center portion to adjust. Once you have it centered, then tighten both those end nuts back down to keep the center from moving. Make sense? Maybe these pictures will help...
