  • I personally see no reason not to get the 7/16" studs, it's only adding rigidity. I used overkill 7/16" studs and Comp Hi-Tech rockers on my very mild heads/cam setup because I had them laying around, I don't really see any downside to it if you're going to use those rockers. My opinion is only worth what you paid for it though and I'm no valvetrain expert.

    • You could cause major problems going to 1:6 RR's on stock springs they could bind. the heavier studs would do fine but may not fit stock rockers. First you need to get heads done and then install new valve springs when you go to 1:6 roller rockers and cam, other wise you'll compress springs to much and break them. Since you have cam already next step is heads then springs then studs and then 1:6 roller rockers. You need to research this so you get the correct stuff.

      • Yes I plan on getting new springs too. I believe they are Alex springs. LE uses them. I'm getting ls7 lifters and hardened pushrods.

        • 1.6 rr's
          Diamond pushrods
          Guideplates
          7/16" studs

          All purchased

Machine shop (not the one that did the motor) quoted me $130 to mill the heads. Sound about right?

          • Did you get NSA rr or SA? I think if you're running guide plates you'll want NSA rr. There are a lot of different thoughts on the matter though.

                • New sprocket, that's more like it...

As for the impala headgaskets, what do they usually run? Also, is there a specific year? Model? Buddy said he can get them for $20 each. I think he looked up 95 impala. Part number?

Side note, valvetrain should be in tomorrow. It's currently in Allen park

                  • I've been looking for the Oil pressure saver for a long time now.

What NSA parts are you using?

Yeah I got lucky on the pressure saver.
I don't know much about heads and valvetrain.
                      I got:
                      Comp pro magnum 1.6 rr's
Diamond chromoly pushrods 7.2" although I'm going to measure before install.
                      Guideplates
                      7/16" studs

Edit: how much does hot tanking usually cost? I can do my intake right?

                            • Victor Reinz 5898 is the same thing as the Mr. Gasket 5716 and is usually a fair amount cheaper, or at least it was when I bought them a couple years ago. Also, the Mr. Gaskets had a packaging issues for a few years where they would get damaged when removing them. I'm sure this has been corrected by now though, but it was a concern when I was researching this a while back.

                              • What's the part number for ls7 lifters? Are there different brands?

Parts guy said High energy or pro magnum are the brands he can get in.

He thinks I'm wrong that impala gaskets are thinner .... Oh well I'll let him order the felpro's and I'll bring in a mic when I go to pick them up. He said $46 each.
