They were mold-in-color like a dark gray.
I painted them satin black.

There's where I taped, so the top part of the grille (in the engine bay) is still the stock molded color, and below is painted.
It's much more noticeable in person, though subtle still.

Im with jonny on road racing! when is the 5-speed swap happening?
And dont be afraid of the headlights, I did them on my Colorado. The seals turned out "OK" but i blame it ENTIRELY on the digustingly cheap quality of the housings in the first place
You can check them out saturday morning before the convoy. Hopefully your cobalt lamps are better. Be sure to use permatex ultra black for the re-seal and ship it!

Haha, 5-speed swap will only happen if my trans esplodes, and at that point, I might just rebuild the auto, and throw a stall in it....and forge the engine while it's all apart.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View PostIm with jonny on road racing! when is the 5-speed swap happening?

People seem to be all right on the Cobalt forums, if they put them back in the oven after painting and then put them together - but I would probably apply more silicone to seal the deal.
And yes - the quality of the plastic is shitty, but the lenses are pretty good (lenses being the reason I don't just get projectors, I don't want to deal with cracking/peeling shitty lenses)Gone but not forgotten: 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

the problem with my housings is that the fitament of the back-halves to the front-halves was never what it should be. Some places would seal snugly, and other places id have a 1/8" gap no matter what i tried. And thats why they are known to condensate so bad in the first place I would imagine!-Joel

Shit...where'd my lights go?

Mmm, shiny

My taillights are shinier than my car, re-Niteshaded them, then put 2 coats of some real good clear from a spray gun (well, my Little B did that part), they look sooo much better in real life compared to the faded paint job before.

And yeah, it was. It was very strange, but it definitely had gone away. Fred said the same thing happened on his truck.Gone but not forgotten: 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

Bought a coil pack cover and strut tower brace off a friend of mine.

Went autocrossing at Dixie motor speedway last weekend...honestly I'm surprised my brakes actually worked there, in hindsight...
Couple pics of my car from there:

And this is what happens when your tires suck, and they don't stick when they normally do. I managed to keep it from spinning completely, which was nice.

Car handled incredibly, aside from the tires sliding everywhere.
If I had driven as good as I did in the fun non-timed runs at the end of the day as I did during the timed runs, I would've had much better times. It was my first time autocrossing, so I didn't expect to impress anyone.
So I went to change my brakes this weekend to new Raybestos Advanced Tech rotors & Hawk HPS pads up front, and new Raybestos drums out back with new Centric shoes (found out my shoes were perfectly fine, but replaced them anyhow), and painted the new drums.

Was jacking it up by the front subframe (too low to get under the jack points - not sure why I didn't drive up onto blocks like normal), jack slipped out, and the car slammed down - onto the jackstand I had sitting underneath waiting to go under the side subframes - with the radiator, and now it leaks.
Anyhow, went ahead with the brake job.

What's left of the stock pads...which is nothing, or less than nothing.

Rotors, old and new - yeah, just a tad warped...with some metal on metal.

All new!

Painted new drums
Bought a new radiator and was able to drive her up to school, and today I pulled the front fascia off (takes me hardly any time now), and readied it for radiator removal. Just need to drain the coolant system, and pull the trans lines out of the radiator and then I can swap it over.
