I had rear head gasket leaking, there was oil sludge built up on back of block and bell housing. This was not sweet smelling. When I replaced head gaskets it was bad from water jecket to edge of head/ block so no oil mixing or signs before hand just using a bit of antifreeze.
When you get car on rack feel up top around bell housing see if its wet/oily.sigpic

Sounds like thats the head gasket issue i have, and if thats the case im just leaving it until it becomes a problem. It doesnt look like a gushing leak and isnt dripping.
I can guarantee the bellhousing and back of block is oily without even looking at it, it just always has been. I didnt know about the dimple trick for the "china wall" when i did the top end so it leaked almost from day one.-Joel

Could be. The smell doesnt exist anywhere, in or outside of the car when it is parked and not running. Even if it had been running and hot minutes prior.-Joel

Still going on, except now I'm starting to think its coming from under the center console. I'm going to try to investigate this weekend.
Edit: lightbulb just went off - My dad also changed my trans fluid this winter. ATF would be a similar a smell, thinking maybe my transmission is over-filled.Last edited by JoeliusZ28; May 2nd, 2013, 01:13 PM.-Joel

Very good possibility, although if it was REALLY full, wouldn't it oveflow at the vent cap and make it on to the ground?Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View PostStill going on, except now I'm starting to think its coming from under the center console. I'm going to try to investigate this weekend.

Can anyone tell me where the vent tube on a t56 is? Just looked at it on the hoist and dont see anything. I am desperate to figure this out, i am nautious/high/headache after the drive back from the m&g. Had to have the windows all the way down.-Joel
