The problem now is LE is giving me three grinds to choose from. I don\\\'t honestly want to have to shift at 6400rpm to get the most out of my engine. However which of the two smaller would make better power then? The custom grind the suggested was 228/236 .576/.571 and they have a \\\"off the shelf\\\" 226/232 .578/.574 I am not an expert by any means. Which one would make better power all around? The custom one has more duration while having less lift. Their \\\"off the shelf one\\\" is just the opposite. I am worried about having to replace optis frequently with the large cam. Otherwise I would go with it.
My vote would be the 228/236. Milling the heads doesnt cost much. I think i paid something like $80 to have it done to mine, i took off .020 and used impala gaskets to get me to 11.4:1

My understanding of opti\'s is that they build heat in high RPMs. In other words, a 7k rpm flash is very unlikely to hurt it, but a 5th gear 150mph pull at 5 grand for over a minute is almost guaranteed to toast it... (and I know of a guy that burned out a brand new one doing the latter)

Holy crap, are those size cams really necessary to make decent power through an lt1?

I wouldnt even want to drive an ls car with a cam in the 240 range...

Ever been in one? Can't even tell its any different than a 224 cam other than sound as long as you have the proper converter.

236/242 here with .620s lift drives really well to the track and back, the RIGHT converter will make or break the car fwiw.

One with a 236/238 cam. Was a dog till 4k. Was almost not fun to drive, no power around town unless you spin it to the moon everywhere. This was a 6spd car though.

Other specs and especially the tune can play a huge role in that. My buddy had a cam comparable size to that in a 6 speed ls1 and it pulled like a mule all the way through the range.

Hm, lift on this was .650 IIRC, 113lsa. Was spinning that to 7k, felt like that was the only place it made power.
