I don't think it's too loud the wife doesOriginally posted by my95z28 View PostThis thing has longtubes on it right? If it does, I wouldn't put them back on. Those longtubes are the main reason that you think it is too loud.
I'll see how loud it is without the cam. I don't think it'll be too bad.

I'm just saying, the cam has nothing to do with how loud it actually is. The sound that comes out of the engine changes, but the actual db level isn't going to change.

ehhh... thats debatable. the cam changes the dynamic compression which can affect volume. My car was rather quiet with longtubes and the SLP catback.Originally posted by my95z28 View PostI'm just saying, the cam has nothing to do with how loud it actually is. Ok so he finally got it on the lift today.
He said the oil was full of coolant which is what caused it to die. He said it was mostly a water mixture and that it probably had a leaking head gasket or intake gasket. So the bottom half is mostly trashed, he still has yet to pull the engine. He's picking up a 94 LT1 motor and that should be on probably Thursday. He said next week he'll start on swapping it and then we'll take the old motor apart rest of the way to see what's good on it to part it out. He said the grand total with the new engine, 2 tie-rods, alignment, and fluids I'm looking at around $1500
He said he'll work out a deal with the labor for us, but would like about $750 by this weekend. This sucks! been so hard to save money with how things have been for us lately with having to shoot down to Taylor, MI on Friday for a funeral and other things.
So I'll be putting my 360 and games up for sale, going to be pretty firm on my price though because I just got it and take excellent care of it and really don't want to sell it so I'm not going to let it go for dirt cheap like I usually do. Hopefully I can pick up some more PC repair jobs this week to help pay for it.

Well he is doing this on the side of his normal work at the garage he works at plus he's going to work with us money wise. Had I had the money, then I would of taking it some place else after the second week.

Ya, just wish I had the cash right now. Hopefully my 360 and games sell, that'll pay close to $600. Then I'll have to do the rest in payments. I have a couple other things I'm going to sell, but not gonna be much money.

So he pulled the engine yesterday and took it apart. Heads are junk! They had only a single spring setup and used the stock washers for the spring. What happened was a lifter collapsed into the block and total killed a piston. I'll post pics of the piston once they go from my phone to my Gmail.
Some problems he noticed as he took the engine apart, heads weren't tq down all the way, TB was loose, Opti is screwed in with wood screws! So basically either the guy who build the engine or the guy I bought it from is a total ****ing idiot!

Not sure if everyone can see the pictures. I linked them from my Facebook since my phone uploads to their instantly, and take forever to send to my Gmail.
Uploaded them to my host now.Last edited by SoulTerror; April 7th, 2010, 04:06 PM.
