That would just require new bearing, and crank correct? Maybe the rod as well?

Mail order tune pouring fuel, saturated the oil. Which is why you should be on the watch for metal particulate/fuel odor in the oil.

New bearing, and polish the crank I think. Not sure what has to be done to a rod if the bearing spins in it...resizing maybe?

Depending on the damage to the crank, you might have to run a smaller journal, or get another crank.

        I think we've already agreed it's not a mail-order tune.

Yes - all new bearings, and a crank. You might be able to re-size the rod depending on how bad it is, but if its completely seized im guessing its effed.

Thanks a lot everyone. I'm learning a lot from this thread. I told him it has to be done by the first week of April because my mother in law is moving and is going to want their Cobalt back. He said that'll be no issue as long as we get moving on it.....which means he needs to get to work!

unless you shut it down quick after the bearing spins, theres a very good chance the crank is toast. Its usally a visible difference in diameter in comparison to the journal next to it for the opposite bank.

It may be easier to just drop 600 bucks on a stock LT1 out of a buick and swap it in. If you rebuild it though, you will know it has new parts.

Generally with a hurt rod bering, (and god knows ive hurt enough of them) you can turn the crank .010, resize the rod, and put it back together with new berings. As long as it didnt get hot enough to crack the crank. MAKE SURE THEY CHECK THIS. Cause you can have fine cracks in the hurt journal that you can only see with magnafluxing. You can rebalance it if you want, but for a street motor it really isnt going to matter. Pull it apart on sunday, and have it backtogether by wednesday. Eric L

If the motor is too damaged we are just going to swap it.

Just have to wait for him to get it opened up. I told him it has to be done by the first week of April, so should be making progress here soon.

Nothing yet. I'm calling him tomorrow to see what's up. Him slacking off on it is really starting to piss me off, even after I gave him a dead line.

Nope, he's suppose to be going to pick up a 94 LT1 motor and yanking mine out this week.

I pretty much told him I want the motor to be stock except for the headers and the throttle body so that I don't have to have it tuned, because I don't have the money for that.

So anything that is good off the motor that I wont' need will be for sale. I should probably have 2 computers, and a wire harness plus all the accessories from what I know of, not sure yet. I'll have a thread up when I get them.

This thing has longtubes on it right? If it does, I wouldn't put them back on. Those longtubes are the main reason that you think it is too loud.
