  • Some questions about my LT1

Ok I have some questions about stuff on my LT1. I attached some pictures. First There is a blue sensor looking thing down by my headers that the wire is kinda melted looking. What is it?

Another is on the top of the motor it looks like the one group of vacuum wires (I think) is suppose to be mounted somewhere. In the one picture I held it where I think it's suppose to go, is this correct?

I then have the empty socket (plug) that comes out of a wire by the alternator, I took 2 pics of this, any idea what it's for?

Thanks and let me know if you want me to upload the pics so that I can embed them into the post instead of just attaching them to make things easier.

Single wire going to the side of the engine block is your knock sensor wire:

That's supposed to plug into your A/C compressor:

I think the tube you're holding is for the AIR valves... if that's not plugged into anything, there's your vacuum leak..

Eh it's either EGR or AIR. Either way - delete them

How would I go about deleting them? There is a sensor and I don't want an engine code being thrown. I think I do have a vacuum leak though because when I was look I pushed a vacuum line on a little bit better in one spot and the car is running a little better. Still having issues though.

If you delete them, you'll have an SES light thrown until someone tunes your PCM to not use the AIR and EGR.

Alright, something to look into I guess. I need to get under the hood with a mechanic so I can get questions answered easier and see if we can find the vacuum leak that I think I have.

Mark can you take a general high resolution picture of the engine bay and then a few specifics? I want to see the headers - do they have AIR provisions still? I'm having a hard time believing someone put that big of a cam in there but left AIR and EGR intact. It seems like someone half assed the removal of one or both and that's where your vacuum leak is coming from. Take a pic of the headers and if you can get a picture from the passenger's and driver's side of the intake manifold as a whole and maybe one showing as much of the back of the intake manifold as possible. I'll be able to tell you what has and hasn't been removed.

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow morning if I have time with our camera instead of my phone.

Sounds good - I bet that they forgot to plug something or a vacuum line is cracked.

                        First Picture:
I'm really not familiar with that module that you pictured in the first post and is in the first picture by the oil filler tube and the first two injectors on the passenger side. I see the normal vacuum tube on one side of the solenoid and a larger diameter tube on the other. Was that what you were saying isn't hooked up to anything right now? That might be a newer (1996-1997) EGR or EVAP solenoid that I'm not familiar with as I don't see anything like it on shbox.com which is based of the 1995 LT1. Idle thought - they told you that this car has no A/C hooked up right? You're missing the two tubes that go to the A/C system.

                        Next picture of interest:

I do see the header is definitely plugged so it does not have the AIR system hooked up on the driver's side.

You have no cruise control? I'm surprised the guy left traction control (what I'm guessing that red canister is on the driver's side - I know it's a stock item but I didn't have it and I don't have traction control) but didn't keep cruise control. There should be two cables going to the bracket that your accelerator cable is clipped into before it goes to the throttle body. Aftermarket BBK throttle body too - nice...

It looks like he deleted AIR but left EGR and EVAP. The EVAP line will be a vacuum line that is bundled with the two fuel lines that come out on the driver's side strut tower with the yellow "bands" in the bundle. It should then plug into another vacuum tube on the driver's side along the intake manifold and then travel under the throttle body to the passenger side of the intake manifold where it then goes into the EVAP solenoids and what not. EGR is in the back of the intake manifold and will have a vacuum line going from the side of the intake manifold to the back where the EGR valve is.

Pretty sure it has CC. Don't remember if I used it or not. As far as I know it does not have TC. The light is light on the dash and the button does not turn it off. Now to the bad news....

On my way to work I started hearing a ticking noise, didn't sound like a rod knock but after a short time the engine just quit and won't even turn. It tries for like half a second. My mechanic looked at it real quick and he said either the engine is seized or an accessory is froze. He's thinking it's the engine though
