  • Actually there is NO coating on the rears, just as cast iron. Mine had never seen winter and was all surface rusted, same with the front spindles.

      • well i got the splashgaurds back in and the passenger side brake setup and wheel back on.

However, i just finished the driver side and it appears i have a leak where the line meets the caliper. I messed with it for a half hour and same result every time. Its not a small leak either and yet i cant tell exactly where it is coming from. I was so close to being done, the light at the end of the tunnel so bright, could already smell the exhaust fumes and burning rubber,... and now this

ugh, ill deal with it tomorrow.

        • I would have thought your car had alot less than 75+K miles

hopefully you didnt break a metal line, good luck!

it actually has 90xxx on it right now.

i didnt break a metal line, its leaking out of the crack where the line-end bolts to the caliper... and i dont know why. as soon as i take the vice grips off the line: drip-drip-drip!!! It doesnt look any different than any of the other connections which arent leaking.

                • You might want to try some teflon tape or something if its leaking around some theads. And make sure the brake fluid isnt leaking on the caliper all night because it will DESTROY the praint you just put in there.

                    • could be a small crack in the line? maybe when you have the vice grips on you are closing that gap?

                        • ok i figured out what the problem is. I wasnt working in the brightest of light yesterday and hadnt noticed the rest of the calipers actually had two copper gaskets on them, one had just always stuck to the calipers upon removal. Well apparently this one didnt stick as good, and fell out somewhere along the line... im hoping my dad has one laying around, otherwise i get to run up to the auto parts again. at least its simple

                            • Joel, I REALLY like that red color you are using for the accents on your car. . . I might have to borrow that idea when I paint my calipers and suspension pieces. . . I'll probably go with black or grey instead, though. . . Looks like you're moving right along, can't wait to see it at the M&G!
