  • What valve springs are recommended? Brian Tooley are good and reasonably priced

Also will be okay with the trunion rockers? (I'm unfamiliar with the trunion kit, I have only heard about it) - yes, trunion upgrade is worthwhile

I'd assume it would be a good idea to get hardened pushrods as well ? yes, use your stock ones to measure length after your top end is together (search LS1tech) and order based on that

I have been seeing 317 heads for around 200, does that seem okay? Anything I should look for when getting some? I paid around that for mine. Had them cleaned, inspected and valve job done...otherwise untouched

      • Will these work for me? I shouldn't have to use longer studs to run these correct? Still thinking of my best option to run my rear widened 10 spokes without having to bfh anything.

                        • I can't believe this thread is 23 pages. Not much progress has been made in that time.

As some of you know I have been on the fence with selling this.... right?

Well I think I have came to my senses and I'm going to keep it.

I have had thoughts of starting the disassembly this fall. But I am still unsure of if I should pull the motor or not. This is the garage I have tow work with (not the best picture)

It's on the small end that's for sure. My coworker has a hoist I could use but I'd be pushing it with having in it on there for more than a week. I don't want to over welcome my stay. I did my a4 to m6 swap at his place but I was in and out over a weekend.

Would it be a complete pain doing this on the ground? I swapped out my cam swap on my old lt1 in a garage at my parents but it was a double garage with all of the tools I'd ever need. Along with it being headed and perfectly even floors.

Really I only need to get the oil pan out to tap it for the oil return line from the turbo and I need to swap my k member as well. Maybe do those 2 things on the hoist?

I'm still unsure if I plan on doing heads or a cam. I know "do it once and right the first time" but that doesn't go with a stock bottom end either.

I'm also not trying to break any records or burn down the streets either. Just a fun reliable cruiser.

I'd love to cam it but that is just going to turn into a snowball of things I'll need.

I'm still leaning towards an on3 turbo. I know it's best to go with a borg or a Turbonetics but it seems to be Poole that are running the 76s are pretty happy. The cost of a Turbonetics could really pay for an on3 turbo, good wastegate and a set of 80lb injectors. Food for thought.

New pic for your viewing pleasure from lastnight.

Got some more parts in from jonny yesterday. Thanks for hooking me up Jonny!

A few side notes- I need to tint my parking lights. Get a wings west carbon fiber grill and an ss hood.

                          • You'll be fine on the ground. There's no reason to pull the engine. Get a cherry picker, support the engine, drop the K, drop the oil pan, and then reverse!

                              • Another one of my concerns is head studs. Is it possible to do head studs with the motor in the car? Are head studs a must?

Again I don't plan on burning down the town with this car just something g fun to have and learn on. I might end up building a 5.3 down the road while I wait for this one to blow up.

Is this the trunion kit I need?
                                http://www.briantooleyracing.com/btr...union-kit.html

                                These springs okay?
                                http://www.briantooleyracing.com/600...e-springs.html

                                Hardened pushrods?
                                https://www.texas-speed.com/p-278-te...-pushrods.aspx

Maybe a stupid question, can I install the springs, pushrods and do the trunion upgrade with the heads in the car? Are 317 heads needed or just insurance since they drop the compression?
