              • Was seeing it anybody was still reading my stupid thread that this stupid kid made

Bought a shift light because I'm really stupid and don't want my car to shift at optimal rpms every time and not have to guess.

                • You have a tach, why do you need a shift light? Did you ditch skip-shift?

Also, you have headers, so wouldn't you be able to tell when to shift by the sound?

                  • My tach is off about 150-200. The stock tach gets less accurate the higher up it goes. I wear a helmet and I can't hear my car as well so I can't go by sound when I'm at the track.

I have no idea if skipshift works on my car. It never has locked me out of second gear when the light comes on.

To further elaborate how far my tach is off. 6k on the tach only showed up as about 5300 from the pcm.

                    • You still shouldn't need a shift light - just know where redline actually is on your tach (i.e., if it's actually at 6500 or something), and shift there. You'll have enough time to glance down while on the track to see.

You'd know if it works. Doesn't sound like it does. You have to be under 35% throttle for it to work, though.

                        • Is it required? No, I'm not saying it is.
Is it going to make me go faster? Likely not.
Is it beneficial for my need? Yes.

I don't want to over rev my engine or repeatedly hit the limiter and have it go kaboom. I've had too many god damn problems with this car, and I don't want to replace the opti, pull the motor, or anything else. And if I can safeguard that with a shift light, well excuse me. This is my first manual car. Scratch that, this is my first car. This car has almost sat more than I've driven it. I've put so much work into this car trying to make it right and now it finally is and I'm not letting multiple rev limiter hits ruin that just so I can find where it is exactly on the tach. Plenty of M6 guys use them. I shouldn't be gazing down at the tach to know when I should shift. I'm no expert driver.

I'm not looking to break the 11.5 bolt on lt1 record. I'm looking for consistent shifts. Shifts at 5600 every time not 5200 4900 5000 5600.

Excuse me if I'm being rude because I'm not trying to be. I just don't understand how anybody can't find this beneficial unless you are a god or have been driving a manual for a long time now.
