95% of exhaust thats not a full size muffler on on LS1 with longtubes and an ORY sounds terrible. The rasp gets so bad at certain RPM's and on decel it sounds like 2 pissed off owls having sex.

Adding some high flow cats to that system will make it sound 100% better I guarantee it.

      • I thought it sounded great except for one particular rpm it had some rasp.

I ended up putting on a set of Magnflows, either 59599 or some variation of 5s and 9s. Anyway, 3 inches in and out with a 4 inch body, outflows the rest of my exhaust. When I got them it was ~$175 for a pair but I think they've doubled in price. The GMMG sounded great with that installed when I still had tips, now it's gotten too raspy without tips.

Edit: 59959 and it looks like they are still under $100 each. I really should pick up another set as I've dragged them across everything due to my crappy Y.

          • I was thinking about putting one before my bullet after the Y. Would that work?

Going to move quickly on this.

And I must say, damn thing runs great and is so much faster. Really wish I had it dyno'd before I changed the exhaust.

            • I don't have any issues with my 98 smelling like gas. Well, on a cold start it's a little noticeable, but the cabin never fills with fumes.

              • The cat needs to be as close to the headers as you can get it. It needs to get hot to do its job.

And that will reduce wrasp and get rid of the smell?

so put cats on the collectors before it goes into the y pipe?

                  • You want the cats as close as possible to the head. I have mine directly off the headers and it made a massive difference in the amount of rasp. Most of the gas smell is gone unfortunately, I always liked it.

                    • New issue to report.

Leaving work yesterday jumped in, started it up and took off, car stalled at about 15 mph right out my parking space. Had to crank it over a few times and half throttle it fired back up, drove it home it was completly fine.

Thought it was odd but nothing to worry about.

Go to leave for lunch and the car starts up and dies almost instantly(not VATS) Had to crank it over and over and over and was playing with the throttle, about half throttle it fired up and drove to Arby's just fine.

Go to leave Arbys and it wont start. Now I am pissed.

Cram all of us into the interns 5th gen and get back I call a tow truck to meet me at 3:00.

I show up at 2:55 and the car starts up perfect(several times) and runs just like it should.

What in the hell is going on? No ses codes. I am thinking fuel pump, going to see what PSI I have later tonight. Also going to double check my hotwire for the racetronix kit but I know the fuse is good.

                      Any ideas?

                              • 100% positive its something to do with the fuel pump install. Sometimes when I turn the key it doesn't make the whining prime noise. I took the ground piece off and cleaned it. Going to try the battery connection tomorrow.

Also, I got my cats. They look to be just what I wanted except for a rear o2 sensor bung that I will have to buy plugs for. Sad that I will loose a little HP but I think they will quiet it down a bit and get the smell under control. Cant really do much with these until I get the fuel pump issue fixed. Hope its not the pump its self.
