Fuel issue seems to be cleared up. Simple repair, didn't cost anything, and so far, the car just has a slight misfire at idle, no doubt caused by fouled plugs from running rich for so long.

i agree on the plug thing, id check wires too, if its oil soaked or burnt it wont send a good spark to your plug so check those also.91 Trans am, 305, Lt1 cam, 24lb injectors, headers, SLP LM2, SW chassis, massive panhard, lowered, modded TPI, Tuned, 4.10s, Lincoln locked

Oil leak appears to be coming from timing chain cover. Going to get new gasket and tackle that project at some point. Possibly tomorrow, assuming the weather cooperates. I'd like my car to not be the one marking it's territory every time I park somewhere. The original fix didn't fix anything. . . But last nights fix did. Turned out there was oil all over the coil wire, so I pulled and replaced it with a fresh one, and all was fine. Also sprayed some carb cleaner to get rid of the oil spray on the front of the engine.
Oil leak is from multiple places, including a rusted-through oil pan. When it's time for the clutch replacement this winter, I'll be pulling the bumper, radiator, and AC condenser to get at the front of the engine for new timing cover gasket, inspect the opti, clean the oil off of everything. Then I'll remove the trans, install a new rear main seal and clutch, lift the engine, new oil pan and gasket, and check for sludge. Ran some sea foam through the gas yesterday, still don't know if it made a difference, but I know the car runs and drives 100x better since I replaced the coil wire.Nick H.

Car has a few issues I'm diligently working on sorting out before the cruise, but overall, the trip went as planned.Originally posted by MikeM View PostHow'd the drive go on Sunday? Still running good?
p.s. how's our route for the fall cruise?
The route for the cruise is a miserable one. Working on finding a better route, probably going to drive it again in the Maliboogie at least once before the day of the event.Nick H.

Do you want to take another drive on the 9th or 16th? I could possibly join you . . . or if you send me your thoughts on the route, I can do it without you to save you a second trip. I have the 'Bird at home now so I can drive it anytime.Originally posted by 93formulalt1 View PostCar has a few issues I'm diligently working on sorting out before the cruise, but overall, the trip went as planned.

I wouldn't mind doing it again, but I do have quite a bit of work to do on the formula before its ready for the actual cruise, so my days off are pretty much reserved for that until its done. Lol.Originally posted by MikeM View PostDo you want to take another drive on the 9th or 16th? We are going to take 15 all the way back from Frankenmuth, to save time over taking the twisties and "scenic routes", but I would really like to find a route from Milford to Frankenmuth that bypasses all the cities and is actually a pleasant, not-so-congested cruise that takes us past some nice views. All we saw when we went Sunday was trees and cornfields, broken up by the occasional trip through cities. . . Something off the beaten path, maybe following a river or something, that is still an improved road would be best. We took a lot of dirt roads just because we were already running behind, and we didn't have the time to find a paved road to get us where we wanted to go.
Im still researching the route options.
Once I can get this car to stop stalling and sputtering occasionally, and finally quit pissing oil everytime I park it, I'll venture outside of the driveway. It's embarrassing leaving a 1' x 2' oil spill everywhere I park it for an hour or more.
Speaking of, anyone here want to help change an oil pan this Friday or Saturday? I've never done it before, and I'm trying to figure out how to get it done without taking the car out of commission for weeks. Lol. If you have a lift or a engine hoist, I will come to you. I need a new pan gasket and dipstick, but aside from those two things, everything I need is already in hand.Last edited by 93formulalt1; September 4th, 2012, 03:58 PM.Nick H.

Welcome to the PPM family. I believe you and I are the only 2 currently running ppms on the site. I attended both Camaro superfest and the meet and great and was the ONLY ppm. We'll have to park next to each other next year if I still own it.

I will still own it, but whether or not it will be up and running by then is another question. . . Lol.Originally posted by mcalus View PostWelcome to the PPM family. I have a laundry list of things I want to accomplish over the winter:
-Replace shorties with PS LTs from the 93
-install new oil pan and valve covers
-swap LT4 valvesprings, new valve seals, and 1.6RRs in
-entertaining the thought of swapping out the Magnaflow cutback for the SLP 2OTL, but reserving judgment until after header swap
-tune out EGR/AIR
-order TunerCAT and start playing around with some stuff, learn how to understand logged data and make changes to improve performance.
-replace Opti, plugs & wires, maybe new timing chain also, but probably not. . .
-fuel filter
-replace shocks and install lowering coils from the 93.
-install tubular suspension parts and have aligned
-replace clutch with a Stage 3 SPEC or comparable.
-Replace tires on the C6 rims
And the list for before winter:
-replace windshield
-replace oil pan
-replace parking brake lever assembly
-finish repairing whatever is leaking oil (loses about a quart a day just sitting there, I think it's just the oil pan)
-diagnose and repair hot start misfiring/backfiring condition (I think it's heatsoak in the ICM, going to replace with a known good part + spacers to keep off the cylinder head)
-thorough cleaning!!!Nick H.

Nick what year is the new bird? Changing the oil pan is a real pain in the a$$ job. You can support engine from the shock tower brace if you have one, then drop the K frame, to clear getting the pan off. It can be done in a days work. Let me know what you find on the hot restart sputter/miss. I have been fighting that for 1-2 years. To fix the low coolant light you can simply unplug the sensor as long as you know your not loosing coolant.sigpic

New bird is a 94. I have access to an engine hoist, so it's not a big deal. I'm going to replace the coolant level sensor at some point, so I'll give your suggestion a try in the meantime. Hot restart miss is next on my list after the oil pan, I'm going to replace the ICM and coil with known good units (I have spares) and space them from the heads with washers to prevent heat soak. All of my ignition wires were coated in oil from the oil leak, so I'm going to replace those over the winter when I do the headers and plugs. I'll keep you updated if I find a fix.Originally posted by Plum Nuts View PostNick what year is the new bird? Changing the oil pan is a real pain in the a$$ job. Larry, did you by any chance replace the coil on your car? If you didn't put any grease between the coil and the ICM plate, you could have heat issues from failed coil heatsink. Try a known good part and see if that clears it up. Aside from that, inspect your wires (particularly the #5 and #7 plug wires) for heat damage from resting too close to the headers, that's a common cause of the problem you describe.Nick H.

Not sure if Larry's issue is like mine on the 00 Jimmy, but it seems like my knock sensor acts up when ambient temps are 80 or above
