About that rtv and gasket. Just remembered we are working on a bastard lt1 and not a gen1 sbc No coolant flows through the intake so theres no way for a bad intake gasket to leak coolant.
I was pretty sure there wasn't any coolant moving through the intake, but the frickin shop manual made it sound like there was. . . I guess we're going to have to pull the heads again. Maybe I'll save up for a set of LE2 heads for the purple car and have the ones we take off it machined for the red car.
Does anyone have a spare unvented opti laying around theyd be willing to part with cheap? The one that came off has oil in it, and I don't feel comfortable putting it back on the car like that. I don't need the cap, just the Optispark itself.
When you are all moved into your new place and have time to mess with stuff I can come out there and take a look at the 93 and see whats wrong with it man. Or maybe even sooner if you have the cash for the gasket set.
95' Formula: A4, 3.23'S, K&N CAI, Granatelli MAF, Trickflow Elbow, tune from previous owner. Best 1/4 of 13.91.
94 is ****ed. Now it's backfiring periodically at idle and just off idle. Down on power. Replaced plug wires, disassembled opti, cleaned it, cleaned contacts with emery cloth, new water pump drive seal, and deleted AIR pump.
Oh, and it's still pissing oil just as bad as before. Two steps forward, three steps back. Would be in better shape had I just left the thing alone.
Car will not be at the MIFC cruise unless I can get it running as it should, and even then, it's still going to be leaking oil like a SOB.
Maybe I should just never touch a car again? Seems like everything I touch turns to crap in a frickin' hurry.
Sorry to hear of the problems, Nick. Honestly before I'd worry about replacing the opti with another un-vented optispark, I'd be lookin at getting a vented optispark setup... but it'd require a little bit of work.
Sounds like you didnt get quite the deal you thought you did.
You'll get it figured out you just got to stop rushing and do things right.
I still got a great deal, but I let a friend talk me into waiting to replace the oil pan until I pulled the motor, which is the source of the oil leak. If all the work I did between yesterday and today would have fixed the oil leak, and this problem developed, it wouldn't be so bad. Since the work did nothing for the oil leak (except fix where it was leaking at the front of the engine), and just made it develop another problem, I'm in a worse mood.
Its alright, I'll bring it back, as I said, I'll pull the engine and do some work while it's down for winter. All will be right with the world, I will just have to swallow my pride and hitch a ride with someone else for the MIFC cruise.

That's the plan, vented opti is far superior to the unvented design. Just gotta find one that isn't ridiculously expensive. Probably order one in the next month or two.

Best advice you have been given. Trust me. If you wanted a car you can go drive everywhere with no problems you shouldn't have bought a car with a list of so many needs. Just wait until you get it to your new place bud and when ya get around to pulling the engine out I will gladly drive out there to help. If you still want to do the oil pan by lifting the engine I will come help you.

Also wanted to add, the car is definitely worth what he paid. Body is great, interior is great. I am pretty frugal on what I am willing to spend on a car and I would probably of given what he did for it.

I agree 100%, I just wish there were some way to get it all back together before the fall cruise, but I don't have the means to do it, not considering I'm moving in about 3 weeks, and I need my weekends to get stuff packed. I'll take advantage of the opportunity, drop the motor, mount it on a stand, and tear it down. I'm still considering selling off the '93 to pay for heads and a cam on the '94 and just do it all at once, but I need to get the engine running properly before I spend money on new parts I don't really need. Lol
New opti, fix the threads for that header bolt, install the long tubes and OTVC wires, roller rockers, SLP exhaust install, clean it up, new gaskets throughout, all new fluids, replace the clutch, and install all the new parts I've been waiting to install, and I should have a pretty sweet ride in the spring. It will all be worth it in the end, I need to remember that.
Between the 93 and all the extras you have that you aren't gonna keep you should be able to make enough cash to do your 94 up nicely.
I dunno what to do with the 93, I'm getting little interest in parts, and lowball offers for the car as a whole, so I may fix it and keep it til spring.
