Project round two: 1992 Chevy Camaro

at least someone has faith in us! The white one (mine) has been lightly sanded getting most but not all the scratches and such out, but they are coming along. The black one (Jon's) was pretty stripped when we got the car, but it looks savable, just have to work a little more magic on it.

I think they are both going to come out just fine, I am getting the itch and ready for paint!

Having the paint sprayer is a huge +1 in your guys' court - I'm positive will turn out a lot better than rattle can job.

We are in the process of getting quite the setup going over at Jon's garage, that is going to be our "designated" paint booth, Hes got the bigger Air Compressor 60 gal vs my 26 gal and can handle a better spray gun which Jon also purchased. My air compressor worked fine for the wheels and will do the job for the nose piece (although we will spray it at Jon's) but I would not paint a whole car with it. I got the itch to try this paint thing which is important need to do it while I am feeling confident that we can... Plan is to start spraying primer very very soon! We have a few finishing touches to do on the paint setup at Jon's and to "build" our booth, and a few things left to do on the body of my car as well.

I should find some pictures of how DJ set his garage up when he painted the Mustang. Lets just say a shit ton of plastic wrap everywhere - and a vent fan is a must. Just be ready for everything to be white (or whatever color you pick) outside where the fan is - there's still sections of sidewalk on that side of his garage that are Comp Orange

Yup, did it all himself. I just sent him a text asking him about the type of paint, and what else he used.

Yup. He says he doesn't remember what high-build primer he used (much easier to deal with, not nearly the high/low spot issue of low-build primer). He said use Epoxy primer over bare metal.

Awesome! Yeah I already have all my paint supplies I was just wondering what he used, I do have a high-build primer I believe. I am more excited now seeing that picture there! Going to be more fun then anything I bet.

Yep, painting is definitely way better than the prep-work before it. Especially since he sanded to bare metal and by the time he got done, what he did before started to flash rust, so if you can avoid going to bare, you'll be set.

In addition to plastic on the walls and such, a lot of people give the place a good sweep down the day before to give the dust time to settle, then wet the floor down for when they actually paint.

Yup, that's a good stratagy, or use dropcloths as DJ did. Spraying those down before painting might work well as well.
