  • BTW, did the wet sand 1500/2000 and buff help achieve the look you were going for? If you want the chrome look....well, you are in for a real treat with the high speed buffer and compounds

      • Thanks Michael! I think I like it too! Opinions? Really breaks up everything and might help flow with the car better. I am on the search for center caps, and something that will work. From what I can tell I need one that is 2.5 inches in diameter, maybe a little larger.

I've been wanting to clear a polished wheel too. My concern with using standard spray-on paint is getting it to adhere. Normally it needs a profile (aka sanding scratches) to give the paint something "grab on" to. Not only are you not going to sand/scuff these, they're really damn smooth because you polished them. If you find anything out I'd be very curious to hear what will work!

From the factory they're powder clear, and if you notice there are a lot of factory polished wheels out there with clear that is failing/having problems. I don't know if there's anything special about powder clear that gets it to stick better to a polished wheel, but that would be the way I'd go although then you have to worry about it making them look a little cloudy (worth the trade-off IMO if it's comparable to factory wheels) or yellowing (this would be bad).

GREAT job on the wheels BTW Darren! I wish I had the patience/skill to do that stuff, getting someone else to do it is not cheap!

              • Hmm, looks interesting. A quart for $60 should be more than enough to do 4 wheels if you spray it, plus the $12 for the prep stuff. $72 to have your polished wheels look perfect forever without polishing them seems cheap to me. If you powder coated them it would be that much (if not more) per wheel. You could possibly even get away with buying the pint size if you have a good gun.

                • These look pretty...

Big thanks to Brian (bri2203) for hooking me up with a deal on rear tires and helping me get them mounted and balanced today! Thanks again buddy!

I got a early birthday present from Jon too!

In other news, I started working on the body again. Got the whole drivers side sanded down again. The door needs one more skim coat of filler and the quarter panel still needs some work, its getting better but still not the way I want it. The passenger side still needs a lot of work, got it sanded down as well but needs some more filler. Its getting close thats for sure!

I guess you are right it got to cold to fast to put them on in the garage plus I have the car on dollies right now so I didnt want to mess with it. I have more hours then I care to admit into these wheels! Jon and I guessed about 6-7 hours per wheel from start to finish, taping them off and polishing them taking the majority of that time. I will probably put them on the car tomorrow if it is as nice out as they say. I need to see how they fit and then figure out this center cap ordeal.
