That cam needs to be shifted @ 6800rpm or higher. I bet there is 3-4 mph just by moving the shift point up. Even my cam likes to be shifted @ 6600rpm or higher - never had it on a dyno....Originally posted by Sleeper View PostPower starts to fall off after 6k, so, 6k for now. Heads will hopefully be changing that.
If the power is truly falling off @ 6000rpm I'd be looking at the valve train to see whats going on, something isn't right.2000 Formula

It's a Magic Stick 4 right? - That's a max effort stock bottom end cam - needs to be spun to make power. I'm sorry shifting that cam at 6000 is pointless - and would explain why his car running "bolt-on" times with a cam.Originally posted by sniperperformance View Postthat cam wasnt desighned to shift that high. even with a head swap those cams generally moved the power fall-off to 6400rpm. any more rpms and he would need to change his rods the factory dont really like anything over 6800 rpms.2000 Formula

here you go bud read alittle.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/perf...-manifold.html
this dyno sheet below is ms4 with mild port 243 heads

this is after a prc cnc ported with larger valves ls6 head along with more compression by thinner head gasket.

same stuff as above but with a fast intake

the ms4 dose have a advertised power band from 2300-6800rpms with supporting mods,(proper heads/intake/throttle body/tuning)
allan is fighting a couple problems and there not even problems, 1. you can put on a bigger flowing intake and keep a stock throttle body it will still choke it air intake, there will be a slight gain but not as much as if it had even a port TB. 2. his gears are all wrong for the combo, and he will get to that in due time.
with his setup he has time to grow with motor as he puts saves and puts the supporting mods on to reach his goal...

Ken - I wouldn't be questioning, if I didn't have a clue what I am talking about. I've done my research on bigger cams (ms3/4, trex, vindicator) and all of them peak 6400-6600 and carry the power out until 6800+
Not trying to be an ass - just trying to help out.
Even if for some reason his car peaked @ 6000rpm - it needs to be shifted 300-500rpm past that for best results.
Bump the shift point and the car will go quicker

i dont think your trying to be a ass. but i know whats going on with that motor. iv personally used that cam a few times. in some cases your right to shift alittle past power fall can help. but hes carrying a 10 bolt and trying to have some fun before blowing it. right now the car is having a hard time with the gears. plus you have to understand im a engine builder this is what i do. yes i can make mistakes and i dont now everything but he has some limiting factors that he will get taken care of in due time. and im sure allan appretiates the help to.
just gotta keep in mind. his heads are holding him back along with the TB and rear end. if it where me i would go for a set or prc ls6 heads and watch her fly. lol

10 bolt should last awhile on an N/A auto car - I can understand about being nervous about it.
Gear will help as will the heads - T/B might help but it's not going to be a significant change.
The shift point is a simple change and I know it made a significant difference on my car.
Shifting @ 6000 it trapped 115mph, 6400 - 119mph, 6700 - 122 mph - I tried higher and there was little difference, so I left it @ 6700.
Can't hurt to try moving it up a little imo.2000 Formula

Most plastic intakes have the runners tuned to peak in that range. But with a big enough cam you can force it higher.....doesn't mean it'll make more power than a properly selected combo. But you already know thatOriginally posted by 1BADAIR View Postvery very few ls1 will peak over 6200-6400 with a plastic intake. ls3 even worse. ls7ftw
