  • Sleepers project thread By SniperPerformance

Well on top of all the other jobs i just picked one up friday by a guy on this forum with the user name ( Sleeper ) or Allan.
he came to me with a list a mile long and parts to fit in 2 trucks lol. his ride is a 1998 Camaro Z-28 LS-1 powerd with a 4l60E it a nice looking ride. and about to be even nicer. so far there will be no engine mods. just trans converter and suspension mods. here's a list and a couple pictures of his car.

    Long tube headers
    Solid motor mounts
    Spark plugs
    Plug wires
    Weld in subframe connectors
    Y-Pipe
    Torque Converter
Crossmember mounted torque arm w/ driveshaft loop
    Weld in LCA relocation brackets
Lower control arms installed and adjusted
    Panhard bar installed and adjusted
    Cat-Back system
    Trans cooler
Grind calipers to fit 15” prostars
    Engine oil change?
Rear end oil looked at and changed if needed

    Small update

After a 12 hour shift i went home and prept the car for engine removal. so when i get home tonight i should only have about a hour and then engine and trans will be out of the car and maybe i can get the headers/ solid engine mounts/ and new converter in it. if not tonight tomorrow mornin for sure. so far i have cooling system out, drive shaft out, torque arm out, brake lines for front k-member out, so next is to just cradle the k-member remover 14 bolts for the k-member and the struts and its out. hes some progress pics. lol. allan i really wished you had a tube k-member now it would be prime time for it. and a great weight reduction.

With the motor and trans out, seems like a perfect time to a head/cam install.
When in doubt, Whip it out !

I have almost all of the same mods, did a 224r cam and ls6 intake over winter. REALLY woke it up. Don't get me wrong, it was fast before, but now it pulls incredibly hard for a "small" cam.

yeah ls1's respond extremly well to cam changes and then mix that with a head swap and alittle weight reduction and they become very lethal. Im sure he has thaught this out. if not nows the time. he seems like a well put together person thuogh. with a 3600 stahl converter he can realy get agressive with the cam and spring swap.

i had a custom grind cam and sent factory ls1 head to modern cylinder for some work and ended up running 10.89 with some weight reduction ( full tube KM with tube a-arms) and some other small tricks

Looking good, Ken! Thanks a ton for taking this on in such short notice and getting it done so fast.

Yeah right now would be a great time for the K-member or even heads / cam, but like you said, it's not only a money issue but also a time issue and I've got some major long term plans for the car. The stuff right now is just to have a fun, relatively reliable street / strip car for the rest of this summer before the cruise and then go to no ET's for the rest of the season after the cruise. I'm not one of those guys that always has a car that's being worked on for the next best thing, I like driving my cars, lol. I'd like to have the trans built and a put in a 9" before throwing some serious power at it, but that's a ways down the road.

With my job, I may not even be in the US for over a year come 2012, so I have to be smart about what I'm doing here with my toy car.

                    Thanks again, Ken!

                          ***update***
well i got the motor out last night, i was up till 1:30am as most guys are that are playin with cars. i also installed the solid engine mounts/new plugs/plug wires. today i started the day by trying to install the yank ss converter but got quickly shot down when the converter bolt didn't want to come out. and bloke my 8mm allen head socket. but trust me it will come out one way or another. lol. pics below

tomorrow i should have the new converter in and the motor on its way back up. with the new pacesetter headers. i also found a few maninace problems like a bad a/c tensioner/ both drive belts where badly cracked/ alternator has dry bearing. so i has to adress that as well.

Curious how much do you charge for all this? Or even basic bolt ons?

                            Good progress btw.
