Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!
If you have any problems with the registration process or your account login, please contact us!
this is what we are talking about for those who aren't aware of John Marcella and his unreal skills.
Yep...pretty sick stuff. VaSpeed says another 20-30hp (modestly, lol) over the FAST 102 on this motor. Operating RPM range is still targeted for the street. I don't want the tach to make laps around the dial to show a horsepower number...so my concern with a sheet metal intake was a concern. Shawn's experience and relationship with John and with LS motors has created streetable combo's using this 'technology' for such applications that were pretty much non existant 5 years ago.
We expect it should pretty much buckle pavement when its done...

personally I don't see that type of intake to be necessary on a street build but then again thats why I'm not one of the biggest names in the LSx business. It will no doubt make more power with that intake and I'd love to see it under the curve. Who would say no to one is beyond me. He builds intake for many different makes and models of cars and they never disappoint.

I know what you mean Jeff, I was the same way. Shawn currently has 6 intakes in production right now from CRAZY horsepower 1/4 milers to street bruiser combos like this one. Shawn dictates the requirements, John builds it. Done. It's all about the combo.

Would you mind pm'ing me a ballpark figure that one of those intakes might cost? I have a good idea but I'd love to have one someday. If you'd like to keep it to yourself I'd understand that.

There's a guy on LS1tech that just had one done on his 67 Vette with an LS based 427 in it....he dumped $3900. His required a little more work, soooooo....

That's an expensive 30-40 hp! Who cares though, it's freaking awesome!
after street driving for a normal amount of time the heat retention of an steel/alum intake probably would lower that number greatly
not being argumentative, but I'm curious is this speculation or confirmation? "probably" doesn't offer much....
all aluminum intakes or just expensive ones? so are we to say that aluminum throttle bodies, heads and blocks are subject to "heat retention" as well?
my theory is the sheet metal (alum) intake by stradling the valley and only mounting directly to the heads is subject to less heat exposure of the direct heat source (engine) - conversely the composite style or aluminum aftermarket for that matter sit directly on the heads and valley...more subject to excessive heat.
air travels through an intake at what speed? speculation here, but I would guess several hundred feet p/sec. which really wouldn't be long enough for incoming air (via cold air intake, lol) to suffer any "real" heat issues...before it ends up in the hot cylinder heads.

12 bolts are okay too, but they still suffer from the same design flaws as the 10bolt...they are just a bit bigger so they can handle more power than a 10.
Just a quick caveat, but the conventional 12-bolt is based on the 1st/2nd gen 10-bolt...a totally different animal than the notorious 3rd/4th gen 10-bolt.
They are comparable to a Dana-60 or Ford 9-inch.
Now the 14-bolt that they put in some of the newer trucks, that is more comparable to the 3rd/4th gen 10-bolt...but better...

I think it is because I take it in and out all the time, the rubber has just stretched out, especially at the bottom where it is really thin. It annoys me more then anything.
Appreciate everyone's input... Having done a little research and a handful of discussions, a couple directional changes under the hood, budget dictates going back to my original thought of the S60. Just have to make my mind up on gear selection....3.73 or 3.90.
Speaking of 'changes', does anyone know off hand if the same header will fit either the LS7 head or C5R head?
To answer a few PM's I've received, VSpeed is still waiting on pistons to come in so things are little quiet right now. The block is in the house though....

For me it was a little over $1000+ through MWC. To be fair, the 9" I quoted pretty much included all the boxes checked - wavetrac, backbrace, 4 channel, powder coated, chromoly d.shaft torque arm, etc. Couldn't see doin the 9" unless I went big sooooo what's the point I guess. Because I see this part of the build as more of a insurance policy, I won't be abusing it at the track, the S60 will be more than sufficient.
