      • It's not that I'm worried about mileage as much as it is that I'm concerned why it's not running as efficiently as it should be...a 10 mpg difference is pretty substantial.

        • I agree 16.xx is aweful mileage mostly hwy. If i kept my 1993 z28 at 70 the best I could get was 21. A few things are against you
          - we are now using winter blend fuels
          - automatic transmission

          check for vacuum leaks
is your lock up converter working?

          • I would assume the TC is working correctly...heck, it's almost brand new, just like the trans rebuild. How would I be able to tell if it's not locking up? Could it potentially be an ATF issue? Shortly after I filled up with gas I checked the ATF level and I was running a bit low, so I added some. Would adding too much maybe have something to do with it?

            • You have a 4 speed transmission. Count each shift, after the 3-4 shift at ~45-50 mph you should notice the RPM's dropping, like another gear change almost. That is the converter locking.

              • What ricky said. The other thing you can do is once at cruising speed (at least 55) pump the throttle as much as you can without initiating a downshift. If the tach holds a constant rpm (like a manual transmission would) the converter is locked. If the rpm fluctuates a few hundred rpm with your throttling , it isnt locked. Beware when doing this test that some pcms are programmed to unlock when you let off the gas entirely, so it will take a couple seconds to lock again once you are throttling steady.... In other words when youre pumping the gas, dont let off completely or it will unlock anyway.

                • too much effort. just tap the brake at steady state cruise over like 40 mph and the tc will unlock and raise rpm a few hundred

I did this driving down 275 the other day. RPMs stayed pretty constant, so I suppose that means that it is indeed locked.

                        • Are we talking about the pile of grass clippings? I wondered where those went.

                          • It got dropped off at the exhaust shop yesterday. The guy who is building the exhaust does a lot of road racing, and he recommended that I get a tubular Torque Arm. Would this be a good investment? I can get a used UMI Adjustable unit for $275 shipped.

                            • Picked it up from the exhaust shop today. Got a Magnaflow muffler and an O2 sensor bung installed, and got the exhaust tips finally lined up right (they were always a little too low and crooked). I also ordered a new driver's side power window switch bezel. I'd like to also get the windows tinted before the MSU Car Show on the 21st, but idk yet if that's gonna happen.
