it's been a while, but I'm resurrecting this thread. I'm probably going to do some work replacing the water pump in the next couple of weeks. Do you guys have any tips/cautions I need before I get underway?

Do your best to not let the coolant spill all over the optispark. There's two bolts that if you unbolt first the coolant will drain out and not get all over the optispark. I *think* it's the outermost bolts (bolt #40) as seen in this picture:

After you drain the coolant from the radiator. pull the 2 bottom bolt on the water pump that will drain the coolant from the heads and part of the block. thus not getting coolant all over opti. behind the pump.

well it took about 6.5 hours, but I got that water pump replaced today. I sure am glad that's over with. After I leave for school, my dad's going to re-attach the intake and take it to the shop to get the transmission issues figured out (doesn't shift into 4th), then to take it back to the shop that did the AC back in May, because it quit working 2 weeks after it got fixed.

In other news, I was kinda pissed when I crawled under the car for the first time in a couple months and found my new ceramic-coated headers looking like this:













It's even all the way down to bare metal in some spots, and surface rust is already showing up. Grr...

thats for new motors though. his is not new.

What brand headers?

headers are PaceSetter. Also, I got them lightly used, not brand new. This flaking is only at the ends. There were no signs of damage to the finish anywhere else. And yeah, my motor has 140k on it, therefore not new.

you need to contact the company that said they are ceramic coated, those are painted, thats all you got ripped

And that's why I went with the LPP Stainless Steel Headers. I'll sacrifice a day of "customizing" to get LPP headers to fit so I don't have them peeling and rusting within a few months. Easier to install, faster to break down... harder to install, last longer... Pick your poison.

well I bought them used from a private party on Ebay for $285 shipped, so at least I didn't blow $500 on these or anything. There's no way I'm going through the hassle of replacing these, so what can I do to control the damage?

Take them off & get them coated sounds like the best bet... Or be done with it, sell them for cheap & get new ones

and BTW the TA door sills will not look bad on your car but you have a Camaro, its your choice though...lol...j/k

the headers are fine, they would take many years to actually rust through. Run them for a few then remove them and recoat them over a winter. Nothing to worry about.
