I went to an exhaust shop yesterday...they want to go from the 3" exits in the headers and combine them into one 2.5" pipe in the middle of the car, then have dual 3" exits. Their main concern was clearance. Having 2.5" pipes to me seems like it would defeat the purpose of having 3" exits on the headers. You guys with 3" exhaust, have you had any problems with clearance? I also would like to eventually lower the car 1-1.5".

are you running true duals or are you doing a factory like setup? if you are doing the latter, the cars come with 3in from the factory. although if you are running true duals then i could see a clearance issue.

our cars don't come with 3" from the factory, that being said 99% of all aftermarket y-pipes and catbacks are 3". Why are you having an exhaust shop build your y-pipe when you could just buy one for cheap and throw it on. You should be ok with ground clearance just gotta watch speedbumps and steep driveways.

The reason I'm having a custom system built is because it will cost me about the same as a complete Magnaflow catback system (about $450-$500), and I don't have to put it in myself, just let them know what I want. I'm just trying to get a better idea of what I need to be asking for.

I heard that if a shop does the work, they have to install cats (somebody here please correct me if I'm mistaken). I was going to do Magnaflow hi-flow cats.

what's the best way to reattach fuel lines? We experimented with heating a short piece of it up and trying to put it on, but it just collapsed (not to mention I'm not really comfortable with using open flame on fuel lines lol

how did you disconnect them? They should snap right on I dunno why you would ever have to use any heat please don't.

we cut them off before the fitting--don't ask me why, it was a year ago and apparently it seemed like a good idea at the time.

well I'm not sure how you'd go about that then, I would just try and find one at a scrap yard at that point, why risk putting it back together yourself and causing a major fire if things go wrong its not worth it at all.

do you want true duals or a single? Clearance is a concern with true duals but its definitely not impossible like many shops will try to tell you.

here is my setup, stock height car. I chose to smash the seat pans up a little bit to gain some more clearance, but it doesnt really affect the interior at all. If you run bullets you wont need to do this. Ive only scraped a handfull of times in 2000 miles or so.

Joel, could probably gain a half inch by turning your exhaust clamps, no?

I would prefer true duals if I can swing it. Joel, do you have 2.5" or 3" exhaust? Cats? And you have longtubes IIRC, right?

I think he has 3 in.

When my car gets moving, id like a 2.5 system.
