  • What header gasket should I be using? This fel pro is junk.

    • IDK about you people in "boat anchor" land, but some of the best gaskets on the LS motors are GM factory MLS ones, can't tell you how many times I've reused those without any problems.

i dont believe we have that option.

And Nate, what felpros? 1406s? Mine have been on my car since 05 and reused multiple times, still no leaks. Even if you toasted gaskets it may be bolts backing out at fault rather than the gaskets themselves.

            • Very well could be the bolts, I used the same bolts previously and had zero issues with them. Going to order a Mr. Gasket today. The thing that really got me into hating the Fel Pro was that the two end bolt holes were not pre drilled. I had to drill them and think that could be causing issues. Making sure to get pre drilled holes.

Just fed up with the car at the moment. Just want to drive the damn thing and quick working on it.

              • Mine were pre drilled there and i believe actually notched so you could start the two end bolts without the gasket actually being in place.

                • Ya the notch was there so that they would hang on the extra bolt holes on the head but the hole that I needed for the headers wasnt there.

That still sounds different, i didnt use the "extra" bolt hole iirc

Ditto, the 2 notches were perfect for the two outer header bolts. Makes it extremely easy to get everything in place. Install headers loosely with just the two end bolts partially threaded in, drop in the gasket between the header and the head, install the rest of the header bolts and tighten starting at the center. Only trimming I've ever done to the gasket was for the ports themselves on a set of ported heads.

Here's a pic, mine look just like this. Where did you have to add the holes?

                          • This is the gasket that I took out. I dont know what number it is but it came in a Fel Pro box. You can see where I had to drill the holes, I think that cased an uneven mating surface. Sucks when its your own doing.
