  • I was thinking about going with the VHT to paint my y-pipe but instead went with bbq paint because I didn't want to go through the curing. Now the paint just flakes off if you scratch it

    • I don't have an oven so I'll just cure them on the car - if it works it works if it doesn't oh well - I wasn't planning on letting him leave them on for long... Stainless headers FTMFW.

Even better when I eventually get mine jet-hot coated...
which will definitely be after I'm done with school, but by then it won't even matter.

i believe he actually makes an LT1 version.

as far as the headers go just do a few quick heat cycles on them to bake the paint on. (and by cycle i dont mean driving the car for 20 minutes)

                          • Yeah, I'll do that with the cycling. I put more clear on last night and the clear almost washes the silver paint right off. I hope the baking will help get it to stick better. I did sand 'em a bit to rough them up before I sprayed, but doesn't seem like it really wants to adhere too much the way the clear was washing it off.

And I just bought Tims Tool last night.

                            • lol why did you clear coat headers? no way in hell youre going to get any gloss to endure that heat. if thats the same silver paint i used on my trucks exhaust...which it probably is.. half of it will wipe off no matter what you do. I drove across the state with a fresh coat and it still came off at the touch of a finger. I think it is just the nature of chemicals that are used in it, somewhat of a bi-product. Once you wipe it down once it wont do it anymore.
