I was thinking about going with the VHT to paint my y-pipe but instead went with bbq paint because I didn't want to go through the curing. Now the paint just flakes off if you scratch it

Yeah, I'll do that with the cycling. I put more clear on last night and the clear almost washes the silver paint right off. I hope the baking will help get it to stick better. I did sand 'em a bit to rough them up before I sprayed, but doesn't seem like it really wants to adhere too much the way the clear was washing it off.
And I just bought Tims Tool last night.

lol why did you clear coat headers? no way in hell youre going to get any gloss to endure that heat. if thats the same silver paint i used on my trucks exhaust...which it probably is.. half of it will wipe off no matter what you do. I drove across the state with a fresh coat and it still came off at the touch of a finger. I think it is just the nature of chemicals that are used in it, somewhat of a bi-product. Once you wipe it down once it wont do it anymore.-Joel

DId you wash them throughly with laquer or paint thinner Brian?Doing less with more
