  • Yeah, Jeff. Little bit of sand paper, then wiped with alcohol, then painted.

They had the clear coat sitting next to the silver paint so I figured why not - it was the same brand and high temp. I figured clear coating it would make it look at least a little better than flat silver. This whole painting thing has just been more of a test and a "why not" -

but hey $25 is all I've invested in my dad's pacesetter long tubes + y-pipe including the headers themselves.

These are only meant to get dad by until we can get of LPPs on there.

      • Didn't get it all done - the header install took a LOT longer than I thought because I was trying to make the exhaust manifold bolts work (couldn't afford buying a true set of header bolts) but we made a trip to ACE and spent like $10 on round head hex bolts for the passenger side. It was still a real pain in the dick but we got it to work atleast.

BIG THANKS TO DAN AND KYLE for coming out and helping me with this! If I would've been doing it all by myself I probably wouldn't have even finished the header install.

And now the only pics I have - where it's at right now:

                • I didn't take many pictures either, cause I was helpin out. But I got a few in progress pictures. Unfortunately, I didn't catch any of Dan flipping someone off, or him and Brian going at it wise, so, I apologize in advance.

                        • Yeah, just a recap on the night...

I started working on the car when I got home from work taking the driver's exhaust manifold off. I peeled the manifold gasket off, coppersprayed it again, and went to stick it back onto the engine when I remembered the header gaskets are different than manifold gaskets. DAMN YOU GM/AFTERMARKET!!!!!

Ran to the O'Reilleys outside my subdivision and they actually had Mr Gasket chevy header gaskets. The size wasn't perfect, but it worked. By that time, Kyle and Dan got there and we started bolting the driver's header on.

We got the driver's header all bolted down except for one bolt when Dan realized "Oh shit... when I installed this on my engine I had to back all the bolts off so I could slide the bolt in for this primary..." So we had to basically undo the bolts and do it all over again.

So we move to the passenger side when we realized the exhaust manifold bolts wouldn't work because the head was too big. We ran to ACE just before they closed at 8pm and got 7 round bolts with a hex in the center. They worked except for the #4 exhaust bolt - the primary was still too close to get the bolt in place. So, downstairs we went and Dan used the dremel to grind part of the head down so he could atleast get the bolt past the primary and into place.

Then the next challenge - that same bolt was so close to where the primary bends that we couldn't get a normal allen wrench into it. So, we sacrificed one of dad's allen wrenches and ground the end of the allen wrench off so we were left with a 1" allen wrench that we could get into the head of the bolt and then put a wrench on it to turn it.

So yeah, that took forever to get those headers installed.
