The disappointment you are experiencing must be epic. Couldnt have happen at the worst time.

Epic quite isn't the word for it.

We were talking while we were pulling the bearings out - our biggest mistake was not checking the bearings when we were working on it 3-4 months ago to know what kind of condition they were in. We really don't know how much damage was from us or what was already there.

I was thinking that all along but I know how hard it is to wanna get things done and also avoid spending lots of money on top of it, but guess it'll be a lesson well learned.

Man that really sucks, but I'm 1 to live by the saying "Shit happens for a reason" Sometimes you don't know the reason at first but eventually you'll figure it out.

Not disagreeing, just need clarification - how could you get it off otherwise? Unbolt it from under the dust shield?

you pull the dust sheild off.. start unbolting it, spin it., unbolt the next, and then the next and it should be loose and come off with the trans

Yeah your never supposed to remove it without the trans, when you put it back on your will see that you actually have to turn it slightly while pushing it on the shaft to get it to click in and seat properly. You need to unblot it from the flexplate and pull it out attached to the trans.

Great... didn't know that. What would harm the pump? Trying to pry the trans off? It slid off relatively easily, just had to wiggle the trans back and forth a little bit and it slid right off.

Also, after reviewing some info about the 383s, it looks like I'll be sticking with 355. 383 would need a bigger cam than the cc503 and I'm not willing to throw away the whole top end that I just bought.

355 would be fine, I am with you if you can use the cam and the top end then I would stick with that

not to mention the most expensive part is a new crank and that would be required for a 383 build.

brian you could just get a different cam, the rest of your valve train would be just fine.

Thanks for the tip sounds like thats the way we'll put it back. Sould we store the converter by putting it back on trans?
