Having yours redone will be almost the same price.

        Find out what "NEW" is?
If it's a factory crate motor it might be fine but scamers are out there.

The only thing that it would do is cut your time down.
Order the block, tear yours down and get ready to reassemble.

One thing you might want to replace are the lifters.
All that grime that was in the pan got pass the filter and made it into your motor and that means it made it to your lifters and could compromise the lifters roller bearings.

        And you don't turn bearings
You would have to have the mains on the crank turned and use over sized bearings.
And if you are going with a studded bottom end you need to have it lined honed and they will need the studs to do it right.

Yeah I know, what I meant is having crank turned and oversized bearings fitted to crank.

It's been my experience that it's alot better to deal with someone local...I bought a short block from California and it was junk....and that was from a very well known speed shop. Deal local so if something goes wrong you can go knock on their door.

                  Oooh...4 bolt mains.

Good luck with the engine drop - you guys should have that out in no time cause you know exactly what you're doing now.

I couldn't agree more with James on this....when it's something mechanical and of such importance as this, it's always better to deal locally. Alot easier to go work out any problems that may come up when you're standing face to face.

I agree, use a local shop with a good reputation. You guys live in the "Motor City", there has to be dozens of good engine shops in your area that you can work with.

But until you get the engine out, tear it down and asses the actual damage, everything is just speculation at this point.
