To keep cost down, heres what you do...tear the block down bare, have it honed, cleaned, new cam bearings, freeze plugs, new rings, and bearings, turn the crank, arp studs in the bottome end,arp bolts for the heads, new stock oil pump and pick up tube.the crank will cost around 75.00 to be cut, call me if you want and i can try to help keep the cost down.i found it is cheaper to buy all the gaskets seperate.your oil pan gasket can be used again if it was a felpro 1 piece, timing gaskets are 25.00,head gaskets are 25.00 a piece, intake gaskets are 25.00.

Yeah, all this just costs money which is a lot of what I don't have. I think what really makes me the most upset is that I was happy we were finally done and I could stop putting my dad out with doing all this work. I was putting Angie out because I kept spending all my time working on my car and I was so happy to finally be nearing the finish line so I could really devote more time to her.
At this point, Red Alert's probably going to be down for the rest of the season.
But, y'all are right - if you're going to do it, do it right...

Yeah this makes the most sense. Plan is:Originally posted by my1994z28 View PostTo keep cost down, heres what you do...tear the block down bare, have it honed, cleaned, new cam bearings, freeze plugs, new rings, and bearings, turn the crank, arp studs in the bottome end,arp bolts for the heads, new stock oil pump and pick up tube.the crank will cost around 75.00 to be cut, call me if you want and i can try to help keep the cost down.i found it is cheaper to buy all the gaskets seperate.your oil pan gasket can be used again if it was a felpro 1 piece, timing gaskets are 25.00,head gaskets are 25.00 a piece, intake gaskets are 25.00.
1. Plull engine
2. Tear it down, to assess damage/problem.
3. Have crank and bearings turned
4. check cylinders to see if honing can be done.
5. reassemble engine new ring, bearings, rod bolts, gaskets.
6. Reinstall engine. (maybe drop back to standard injectors).
7. Have tune done!
8. Drive to Meet & Greet. (Hopefully being Optimistic)sigpic

not going to get into that senario! IF it is done by M & G so be it. Time, money, and luck, have to all come together.

Hey guys - what do you think of this? Do you guys think it'd be cheaper going this route than having my block machined, honed, bearings fixed, crank redone, etc?

Yes...but I'd find out what "new" to them actually means...rebuilt? Or actually "new"?Originally posted by Redd8407I WANT NOISE! SPEED! I can tell you from experience that rebuilding that shortblock to factory spec will be right around that price if not more and take a few weeks depending on where you take it.Doing less with more

Definetely a viable option but you should research the cost of your rebuild first to compare.Last edited by 9T8W66; April 26th, 2009, 09:11 AM.CraigSemi Retired Street Racer2012 Lava Red Mustang GT 5.0 MT82GONE BUT NOT FORGOTEN
