Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!
If you have any problems with the registration process or your account login, please contact us!
It'll be my first 6 speed car.. I've only driven 5 speeds.
Final drive doesn't change much, just adding a gear.
First gear ratio is what you want to watch out for. Early v8 T5's had a lower 3.35 gear (if I remember right) and wasn't so bad with 3.08 or 3.23, but 3.42's were on the verge of having a quick 1-2 shift. Later T5's worked well with 3.73 because of a 2.95 first gear.
Rule of thumb says that staying close to 11:1 or less in 1st is ideal for street use. Early T56 had 2.97 1st gear ratio and with a 4.11 rear would put you at 12.2, while a later T56 with the 2.66 1st would be 10.93

It should be noted that the 2.66 1st gear ratio applies to F-Body T56's '94+, the '93 model year had two different iterations of the T56, the first gear ratios being 3.36 and 2.97. These were M28 and M29 T56's.

Good info! Wasn't sure of the years, haven't rebuilt one yet so my knowledge is limited on that trans
