    Damn - in my 2012 1st gear at 5700rpm is like 15mph...

      For some reason i thought 4th was 1:1 on a T56??

Nevermind i read your post wrong. You can compare 4th gear in a t56 and 3rd in a 60e since they are both 1:1

        2.66---1.78---1.30---1.00---0.74---0.50

        1:1 in a 4L60e is 3rd

Go big! I ran 3.73's on my old 4th gen and wished I had gone to a 4:10 instead.

Final drive doesn't change much, just adding a gear.

First gear ratio is what you want to watch out for. Early v8 T5's had a lower 3.35 gear (if I remember right) and wasn't so bad with 3.08 or 3.23, but 3.42's were on the verge of having a quick 1-2 shift. Later T5's worked well with 3.73 because of a 2.95 first gear.

Rule of thumb says that staying close to 11:1 or less in 1st is ideal for street use. Early T56 had 2.97 1st gear ratio and with a 4.11 rear would put you at 12.2, while a later T56 with the 2.66 1st would be 10.93

It should be noted that the 2.66 1st gear ratio applies to F-Body T56's '94+, the '93 model year had two different iterations of the T56, the first gear ratios being 3.36 and 2.97. These were M28 and M29 T56's.

How hard are you going to be on it?

I'd run a 3.90 gear - many have had better luck with them lasting in a 10 bolt. They are much stronger compared to the 4.10's.
