        Rain Date?

Just sayin... because the end of September/October is very sketchy for weather.
The thumb tour is an excellent idea Kevin. The Lake shore drive in the fall is very scenic, and there are many mom N pop type places along the route.
You could do the loop, then dump back off M25 to I-75 in Bay City, and mabee do a dinner cruise in, such as in Frankenmuth, or Biotch Run.

Unfortunately, I don't think we could even have a rain date for this one. . . It's so late in the season, that the rain date would be within a few weeks of the original date, and that's just not enough time for most people to make arrangements to attend (day off work, babysitter, get the car out and cleaned up, etc.). I will be at the event regardless of weather, because I've seen some great events that were nearly rained out, and then the rain stopped, sun came out, and the rest of the day was beautiful.

This weekend is quickly going to hell in a handbasket for me -- I already knew that there would be a slight obstacle for me since my niece's wedding is the day before the tour, but now my sister is talking about using the opportunity of having the family together to commit my father's ashes to the family cemetery. At this point, I think it's going to be the better part of valor to retrench and just meet up with you guys for your dinner stop. There may be some cool places in Bay City on the Saginaw River, or else there are good places in Frankenmuth with photo ops if it's not too dark, or even Birch Run. Dammit, I've never been in the Thumb on this route, I really want to go!!!

Mike S. and I will be plotting the route on the 2nd of September, if you want to come with, you could drive behind us and pretend there are more cars. . . Lol

That might just work! I have another wedding on the Saturday before, but it's here in Metro Detroit, not in Midland!

So Nick, is it just you and Akodo tomorow? When and where? Not sure if I can make it, but let me know the specifics and we can go from there!

Due to the horrible roads and lack of scenery, the route is changing. We aren't sure yet where it will be, but at this point, we aren't going to do the Frankenmuth thing. Too crowded, no adequate parking, and really nothing there except shopping and chicken dinners. We are going to find something a little more fun, maybe a tour of a winery, pictures at MIS, a tour of the Irish Hills region, a much overlooked trip that has some nice scenery, and possibly a quick stop in Dundee before we caravan to Bakers for the Sunday Cruise In. It will be a fun time, but it will require a bit of a drive to reach the starting point for many of you. I promise, it will be worthwhile.

                    Details to follow.

Mike M. or Kevin, if you want to make the trip to Ypsilanti or Dundee to try the route and give your thoughts this weekend or next, let me know. Part of it is a drive I make everyday while commuting to work, so I don't really see the beauty in it, but maybe fresh eyes will. . .

You guys should really look into the sugar springs/Gladwin area and do a nice scenic drive through there, a little late to the planning game or I would help ya map out an area since I am up that way all the time. Maybe next year.

We would, but it's a 3 hour drive to get to Port Huron. It's hard to plan an event when the 3 hour route you want to take would total to 9+ hours. Needs to be a little more centrally located than that.

Well, if we do want to do something in the Pinckney/Jackson area, I have some suggestions. We could start around Adrian maybe, cruise the back roads up to Jackson with a stop over in Brooklyn at MIS, and then have lunch at the Cascades (for those who don't know it, its a manmade waterfall in Jackson), then shoot 106 out to Pinckney and end up at Hell Survivors for a couple of rounds of Paintball. Now thats MY idea of a good cruise, getting to shoot the arrangers in the ass at the end. Heck, we could throw in a stop over at the Parlour in Jackson for some kickass ice cream while we are at it. And the state prison is on the way, that would be an interesting photo shoot. Nothing says lovin like hot cars and razor wire.

I know the route along 106 out there is fairly heavily overshadowed with trees, its a nice drive. Once you get away from Jackson, anyway. And it would put us pretty close to Bakers at the end.

Get a sitter so you can co-pilot the route with me before the 30th, and we'll see what we can make happen.

The State Prison is more than just a joke though -- the original prison building from the mid-1800's is still standing and has been opened for tours. It's a possible stop too.

Wouldn't paintball be classified as cruel and unusual punishment for us over-aged lard-asses?
