Krud kutter, phosphoric acid is an anti rust treatment / rust converter. It is used to prep metal for paint.

          • mmmmmmm.. New parts are being installed.20150426_180334.jpg Look to the right of the chicken and you can see a hole in the tail light center panel. This is the damaged one the car came with.

20150426_183943.jpg Newly acquired center panel. I will need to remove it and repair the hatch lock, and latch, but I had to install it so I could see what it would look like. And yes, I wet sanded it and rubbed it out before I put it on.

Also. All the welding is done on the replacement pans. I need to clean up the bottoms of them and Phosphoric acid treat them before I take the to my buddy for epoxy coating. I will begin cutting on the car soon.

here is a look At the repaired pans.

You can see the patch in the rear footwell I had to weld in. I had to replace 70% of the outer flange that welds to the rocker panel.
I have also figured out the welder problem. I was using it outside in the driveway with a bit of a breeze. This little breeze blew away the shielding gas the flux makes as it melts when you weld. Thus...crappy welds. I did the pas side in the garage and it was way better.

              • Today I acquired a few more pieces of the puzzle. I found a console top, radiator, brand new ish, fan and shroud, another head liner , this one may even be repairable. a better center ,overhead console came with it. Tomorrow I am going to pull the plastic pieces from behind the nose that redirect airflow. and maybe apiece of the rear quarter I need.

                    • I have been poking around @ the car this week, trying too figure out a plan of attack. The more I look at it, the more it becomes obvious the entire dash and wiring sharpness has to come out. There is no other way to gain access to the areas for welding. This sucks on one level, thats a lot of work and potential to break stuff is high. But it will help me in that I have an aftermarket alarm system to remov, that will make it asier to do. I managed to remove the column today. The dash is next. I just dont know how I am going to remember where all this stuff goes. I also just realized I will have to pull the door panels to remove all the wiring. I am hoping to just put it all in the hatch area. Hopefully this will save me removing the rear of wiring.

                      • The aftermarket alarms can make wiring a nightmare. Especially if the installer used t taps or scotch locks. I've seen those nearly burn a car to the ground.

Usually they're pretty simple to take out. You'll probably have a 5 wire setup and a relay for hatch pop if they made it to the option.

                        • Thats kinda what I was worried about, that and getting locked out of it somewhere. I have another harness to compare it to so shouldn't be a big deal. Famous last words and all that.
