  • Snyders 350 Sludge Block Chevy

Hey, spent some time pulling Snyders motor out tonight, had a ticking noise in it after we put the headers / dual exhaust on and gave it a few revs. So its getting a little overhaul / cam swap, etc.

So, in a heat of a redneck moment, his dad just plucked the motor out with a CASE skidsteer, lmao.

Aparently the previous owner thought that a combination of thick gear lube and sand, would make a great motor oil!

Haha. It's not that redneckish. But yeah the ol' 350 has definately seen her better days. Yeah I don't even know how that much shit would have gotten in there. Maybe it sucked up charcoal from the cannister? I don't know I've heard of that happening, but there was alot of shit in my engine.

It woulda sucked it into the cyl and just spit it out the exhaust, not into the lifter valley lol.

damn that's got some buildup in it!....i don't think SeaFoam woulda cut it either

well once it gets cleaned up and you do what you're gonna do...it should run a million times better!...oh and about the "redneck cherry picker"....we used to use a fork lift at my step-dad's old shop, it also doubled as a hoise LMAO...(it was one of those gigantic ones)

anyways...can't wait to see new pics when it's done!

Yeah I'm still kind of undecided as to what I'm going to do. Rebuild this one, turn this one into a 355, or buy a fresh 383 with a spun bearing and have that fixed up.

What other surprises await when you get deeper into the motor you have?

If you rebuild the one you have, it would be easy to turn it into a 355.

But once you get the 355 in, you'll be wishing you had the 383.

JMHO, there is no substitute for cubic inches.

I've plucked some engines outta the junkyard that didn't look that bad. I can honestly say, that is the nastiest lifter valley I've ever seen, as far as sludge goes.

As far as what to go with, a 383 will probably cost the same as the 355. I personally if I was going to build a std stroke 350-355 I would go with 6" rods and give it a better rod/stroke ratio. However 383's are easy to build now and the low end you will have from that motor will be great on the street.
