If it was me, I'd bite the bullet and have the heads repaired. I drive my car spring to fall, I don't know what you do with yours. I also don't know about what your end game goal is with the power. If you wanted more power, I'd call up Loyd Elliot and get heads from him. If not, get the heads repaired.

my car's (supposed to be) a spring to fall driver. Mostly a street car, maybe do some fun stuff like drag it on the weekends if I feel like it. My goals are 300+ whp and 12s in the quarter.

Yeah, I looked at AI stuff, but it's wayyyyy out of my price range. I'm not dropping $2k on heads.

LE1 (Lloyd Elliot) should get you into the +300 for $900 if you are already cammed. I'd give him a call. For $200 more, you get new, ready to bolt in heads..

Yeah, I'm aware of that. LE1s were in the lead until I went to Livernois the other day. The problem is that getting a set of stock heads to send him as a core will be at least another $100 (pushing it up to $1000). For $760 I would have my ported heads repaired and reassembled with new guides and seals and ready to bolt in...so that sounds mighty appealing. I'm kind of giving it time for somebody to talk me out of it, otherwise I'm gonna drop them off there on Wednesday.

IMHO I would bite the bullet and go with finding a used set of heads to ship off to LE. For ~$1000 you get ported heads and all new valve-train(minus rockers). Now if your current heads already have a new and upgraded valve train I would take them and get them repaired.

The LE1 heads would just be reground stock valves anyway, so that's a wash. I already have all the other valvetrain stuff (stiffer springs, hardened pushrods, 1.6rr's, guideplates, studs)

If your goals are 12s in the quarter it shouldn't be an issue with near stock heads.

I went 12.7 with a 1.7 60 ft and my trans not shifting properly.

My heads are stock other than being milled .020.

Edit. It sounds to me like you should just get a set of stock heads. Your cam sounds small enough were you really don't even need to port the heads. If you're set of porting them, send them to lloyd.

That's just it: the heads I have that need to be repaired are already ported. So it's paying $1000 for ported heads with new guides and ready to go, or pay $760 for ported heads with new guides and ready to go. And I'm still not convinced that cam by itself will get me to 300+ whp.

A full bolt on LT1 gets to almost 300.. There is a guy on LTxtech with boltons through a 9in rear doing 304 on a dynojet. I think you'll make it..
