• OH MY GOD!!!!!

This thing drives like a dream! So smooth i cant even quite tell when it meshes. Definitely a huge improvement. Only thing is the pedal is going to take some getting used to and im noticing some resistance in the shifter. Either this is a heavier clutch disc or its dragging a bit during the break in. I really hope its the latter, because it doesnt seem like the synchros would like a fast shift very much right now.

Also the torque arm bolt.... Apparently i labelled the wrong one... Whatever bolt i had was slightly too big

    • Good job on the bolt - but happy to hear that it's driving like a dream. You'll have to take me for another ride once you get it broken in.

        • When I got my new clutch in and had my flywheel resurfaced, it took a little bit of break in to feel normal. After a few miles it feels amazing

Great to hear. If this thing loosens up a bit shifting it will be absolutely perfect.

              • Ok, so I put another 30 miles on the car tonight. Thoughts so far:

                1) Pedal feel and engagement. 10/10... amazing. Smooth as butter and grabs like a gorilla. Wish the engagement was just a little bit closer to the top of the pedal but its not enough to really affect me.

                2) Apparently my flywheel was part of my high RPM vibration i was posting about early this season. This car has never been happier at 5k RPM... its like it wants to cruise there now! Also one of my dad's friends came by and looked at the old clutch. His theory is that there was a piece of debris between the flywheel and crank when it was installed... just enough to knock it out of true by a couple thousandths. Anyway, Im very glad the book is closed on that one, dont have to worry about revving it out now!

                3) After about 50 miles there is no change in how the shifter feels so far ... this could be a problem for me. While there may not be anything "wrong" with it, a dramatic pause between gears certainly isnt my usual driving style. 94_LT1_Z28 how long did it take yours to feel right?

                • do the disengagement test. Put the clutch in - rev it to the moon, if it moves - it's not fully releasing.

I did that, it passes that test. I cant "feel" any dragging but this clutch engages so smoothly that doesnt necessarily mean that it isnt still happening to some degree.

edit: it does sound like the input shaft stops turning in the trans when i press the clutch in neutral... so that seems normal.

                    • if it passes that - it's probably just heat from breaking in the new clutch. Put some more miles on it.

I dont think its heat, it has the notchy feel straight out of the garage.

edit: My fear is that the clutch disc is heavier and the synchros are having to do more work to mesh it with the trans. If thats the case no amount of break in is going to change anything

                          • honestly yours is the only one that shifts as fast as it does.

My car has a D&D trans in it and as nice as it is, just doesnt move near as fast as I know you would want it, with either of the clutches I have had.

How many miles are on the clutch now?

Do others with the same clutch have the same issues?

I would think it will take a couple hundred to get fully broken in with a few heat cycles.

                            • Has about 50 miles on it now, but with a lot of stop and go and unnecessary gear changes.

                              • Looks like I can answer my own question, does this seem right?

If so, I'm pretty disappointed and wish i'd have known this before... Cant say im not tempted to tear it back apart already

Edit: nevermind, cant trust that data since my UPS label indicated 22.30 pounds
