i have no idea what that even looks like but the writeup i am following says use a peice of pipe and beat on it. Didnt seem like the best idea to me either.Originally posted by bmwmcars View Postwhen we did chads we used a longer 7/16 20 bolt in the crank snout , a piece of pipe and a puller plate and pushed it on, much safer than beating on it with a hammer
I am not a happy person right now, feel like I am doing all this to spin a bearing.
I am done with it for the day.-Joel

take the bolt that holds the hub on to the crank snout and a harmonic balancer puller (the thing that looks like the inside of a "peace" symbol) and put the bolt through the center of it. then take a piece of muffler pipe and put it over the snout and against the sprocket. then put the bolt and puller assembly into the crank and start threading it in... tighten the bolt and it pushes the pipe onto the sprocket and thusly onto the crank.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View Posti have no idea what that even looks like but the writeup i am following says use a peice of pipe and beat on it. thanks, but i dont need to, its in as far as it goes. It looks like my cam will just have to operate somewhat out of alignment.Originally posted by bmwmcars View Posttake the bolt that holds the hub on to the crank snout and a harmonic balancer puller (the thing that looks like the inside of a "peace" symbol) and put the bolt through the center of it. then take a piece of muffler pipe and put it over the snout and against the sprocket. then put the bolt and puller assembly into the crank and start threading it in... tighten the bolt and it pushes the pipe onto the sprocket and thusly onto the crank.
Honest to God i dont feel like going any farther with this right now. derek's LT1 just blew up for no reason at all at exactly the same mileage. and he wasnt beating on his crank with a hammer.Last edited by JoeliusZ28; July 9th, 2008, 11:49 AM.-Joel

Hey man, don't get down. Just because some elses LT1 takes a dump doesn't mean yours will too. Stay calm, take your time, and it will all come together!!West Michigan Pontiac Club

I've never swapped one out before, but could take that gear off and throw it in the oven to heat it up a bit?

Jeezus man.....DO NOT HIT THAT WITH A HAMMER!! You will be lucky if you didn't eff up the thrust bearing.....it's a very soft babbitting material. Never hit a crank with any amount of force if you don't intent to wreck it.
You have to push on the crank gear with a bolt and a large socket. Or heat it with a torch and it will slip right on until the it hits the shoulder on the crankshaft.sigpicTurbo Charged LS1/T56

you know James that is exactly what I thought too but just about everyone I asked said i just needed to hit it harder. Guess I gotta trust my own judgement a little more.Originally posted by WMCCjames View PostJeezus man.....DO NOT HIT THAT WITH A HAMMER!! All i can do now is hope to get lucky really. If it spins a bearing over something this stupid its gonna suck. I have taken all kinds of precautions to keep this install clean and safe, i missed the boat on that one.-Joel

The timing set is on and A-O-K. even though it didnt eyeball correctly, when bolted up it lined up just fine. Although it still makes no sense to me, way to freak out about nothing Joel. The driver side head is on and ready to be torqued down. I cleaned the deck and pistons up real nice. Just need to pick up some thread sealant tomorrow.
Getting things into gear starting now, I want to hurry up and spin my bearing
