Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!
If you have any problems with the registration process or your account login, please contact us!
Scotty! I completely forgot you had already crossed this bridge! What process did you use on your wheels to get it done? Is it holding up?
Thank you for asking Mr DeVriendt.
To start my dad tried scuffing up the chrome on the spokes with sandpaper and a Dremel, both of which didn't seem to do much on the chrome. When that failed, we went ahead and spray painted the inside of the rim with Rustoleum spray paint. The spokes we hand painted using a brush and a can of Rustoleum. It held up pretty good for about 2 years, then I took my car to Mr. C's to get washed and their brushes stripped away some paint on the spokes. Also, my cousin was working on my car and apparently was greasing something too much. When it came time to take them off for the year the grease that was in a neat little pile stripped the paint there too. Basically, I don't recommend taking the same route. It seems to be great as a temporary job, but if aproached differently it probably would work. I wish I had used an adhesion promoter to get the paint to stick better, but I feel like that would not have helped the spokes when I took my car to get washed. Also, my method seemed to fade a bit over time. Needless to say, I have to touch them up them this spring.
I would have gone the powdercoating option if I wasn't afraid of my "gay" plastic rivets melting off in the oven when they are baking. I may just take my chances or maybe even pop those f-ers out and do that in the near future.

thanks! I'll probably stop by the dupont store and see what their recommendation is for me as far an adhesion promoter goes. If rustoleum held up for a couple years I am pretty confident that some chasis saver would do the job for me.
Another problem we experienced was when we were doing the spokes, it looked like we had covered it enough, but when in the sun, the chrome would shine through and the black would turn to brown

I might just start on it this weekend. I am pretty confident in chasis saver working as an adhesion promoter. That stuff was 10x stronger than rustoleum when it came to the rust on my last truck.

I would offer my help but I think I will be very busy this weekend. If you end up postponing it let me know, I'm always searching for an excuse to come home for a weekend
Especially for car-related reasons
