  • The only things I changed from before are:
    -EGR removal
    -AIR removal
    -Cats of course removed.
I got a tune as well. I believe cold idle was set at 850 and hot at 750.. which I think is just way too low. I should just throw the stock pcm in and run it.

I'm going to double check all vacuum stuff. Is there anything I need to cap off on the rear of the manifold where the EGR was? Besides the block off plates.
I did get the car to run with the Y pipe on, but only for maybe 10 seconds. It idled ~1400 for about 3 seconds, then dropped down to 1000 then to 800 and quit. I'm going to try again tomorrow if i have time and give it gas to keep it running, and also remove any fuses related to EGR, and air.

It does sound pretty damn sick with just the y open. Can't deny that!

Edit: Now that I look back, I believe the stock tune is 800 rpm at idle when it is hot. Isn't the tach off by 200? Also, my EGR blockoff plates.. Should I have used RTV on them? I just used the gasket that was already on the preexisting parts. I'm starting to think that is my problem instead of the tune lol.

Here's my failed start. I'm really thinking it's in the tune now that I think about it more. I'll try the stock pcm tomorrow if i have time before I go back to Port Huron.

        • I think its VATS. I had the car at 3500 RPMs and it just died after 5 seconds. Security light doesn't go out after 5 seconds with the key on 'On'. VATS was supposed to be tuned out of the PCM, but I'm starting to think it wasn't. I'll throw the stock pcm in Monday.

          • Thinking out loud...

Been doing some research and reading on the VATS. My ignition key lock cylinder is damaged I think, or there is a problem with the BCM. My system is in fault enabled mode. It allows the car to start because it previously read the correct pellet value. The BCM part of it allows the starter to engage, which is happening. The BCM also sends a 50 Hz thing to the PCM to engage the injectors. That part was supposedly tuned out. With that thinking, it wouldn't matter if I put the stock PCM in because if it isn't tuned out of the new PCM, the it would work regardless.

I think what I should do is check the fuses to see if I blew anything, the VATS connection on the starter, and the PCM ground. I'll also go over the MAF, try the stock pcm, and just look over everything.

How do you like my new exhaust hangar [emoji14]

Question: What kind of temperature would the y pipe be at when the car is up to temperature? 300ish?

              • Probably something like that.

I'd use mechanic's wire for something more permenantemporary.

The hangar doesn't move really at all so it's good for now.

                  • My y pipe fell off 2 miles from the exhaust shop lol. Open headers OK for two miles?

                    • Two miles? Yeah. I ran an open cutout on a regular basis when I had my IROC.

                      • I got there no problems. I drove by at least 8 cops on my way there. Most were after the y pipe came off lol.

                            • So the y pipe is welded at the header collectors now. It sounds great. Little to no rasp.
