The only reason to go to a 3.73 or 4.10 gear would be if your regularly going to the run on the drag strip, other wise for street use and a race or 2 a 3.43 is your most reliable. just my opinion.sigpic

Long time no post. After a hell of a spring 2015 (lost baby axl at 20 weeks) I barely drove the car last year. Roads were shit and I had no motivation. Got a dirt bike again and got back into that. Fast forward to now and although I could afford to sell it and buy a C6 I just can't stand to sell this thing. Slightly regret buying the ls1 and not LS swapping my black car.
Goal: reliable, 4th with everything "working". Basically I want to do a big ass road trip with the car, Hot Rod Power Tour.
TLC
AC. Still need a compressor. It has to have working, quiet air cond when I'm on the highway. If anyone has a compressor and can ship pm me please other wise I'll just buy a new one.
Trans. 1-6 are perfect. Reverse pops out. Will probably have a car party in the spring and we can take the t56 out so reverse can be fixed. I think it's a synchro. This has to be fixed this year.
Rear end. I've talked about it 7 times but this year I need to get it fixed. No more one wheel peel. I have a spare 10 bolt from Jon that needs repaired. Going to be a grand. Or I can have my current rear end fixed. (out of an auto car) not sure if there is an advantage either way. Just paying a gear shop to do this one.
Engine. Looking back on this thread for three years it's had a goofy idle, I've swore it wasn't a vacuums leak against many of your better judgement, I think you were all right. When I put the car away if the hvac was on defrost the idle would go high. Turn it to off and it would go low. Do I need a new hvac panel? Run all new vac lines? He'll who can I take it to that will just fix the damn issue. Can I test vac pressure?
Steering. Wheel has lots of slop in it. Everything as been replaced except the rack. I know Scotts car is nice and tight, mine is so loose it's almost dangerous to drive. Going to get a new rack and alignment.
Power steering. Something is leaking fluid on my alt. Not sure what it is but whatever it is needs to be replaced.
Exhaust. Yet again. Anyone who has been in my car knows it sounds pretty much amazing but it's just a tad loud. Need to get an actual muffler or cat. Work has advised me it would be a good idea to tone it down this year, apparently a cammed camaro with true duals outside of a courthouse isn't highly praised like it is other places. Im not going to argue, I want to be able to do 2000 miles with this thing in July/Aug.
Brakes. It's about time for pads rotors. I'd like to do 5th gen brakes on it. Do they really stop that much better? It would require me to get 18's which I'm not opposed to but I like my current wheels. Not sure if it's a mod that is even close to worth it, I've always felt this car stopped pretty damn good( street only use)
Seems like a lot but these issues have went on for too long, time to fix them or have them fixed.1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - 6 Speed

Hey Nate, glad you are keeping it, for the rear why not look for a used functioning 10 bolt? It would be hard gor me to throw a decent chunk of money at tebuilding one. 5th gen brakes are amazing keep in mind they are fat so wheel selection gets narrowed down2011 Ford Raptor SuperCrew

I have a hard time trusting people with used 10 bolts. It seems like every ten bolt that comes out of a 6 speed car comes out for one reason: the owner got a S60, 9 inch, or 8.8. Id like to return it to as stock as possible for the rear end. I keep crappy street tires on it all the time so I think it should last with my baby cam.1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - 6 Speed

Well you dont want a 3.23 gear and I wouldnt trust the gearset from jon, so either way youre pretty much looking at a new gearset and posi for whichever housing you choose. I'd just rebuild one and be done with it. Use a 3.42 or 3.73 gear and call it good.
For vacuum you absolutely can get a vacuum gauge, I think they are useful to have anyway (its basically a MPG gauge). Get a single pod and slap it on the dash or have mcalus hook you up. I have one in my gauge pod and i love it save for the fact i melted the line this year and its not working at the moment
But if the HVAC panel is causing the problem theres a good chance you already found your problem. Just need to tear into the dash and pinpoint the leak. Ive never heard of an HVAC panel leaking but you never know, did mice get into this car at all while it was sitting?
The duals sound bad ass. I agree with changing exhausts but I think you should keep them in the attic for a rainy day

Oh im not making it crazy quiet at all. Keeping true duals 100% just need to add some kind of a high flow cat or muffler. currently its got gmmg tubes acting as mufflers and turn downs. If I could get it down 3-4 db at idle that would be perfect.
it would probably make more sense to just take my car in and have them rebuild my current rear end that way I don't have to install anything. I would have to get my car retuned for 3.43 or 3.73 so it shouldn't really matter. I don't think there is a cost difference so 3.73 would be decent.
and does anyone know if the hvac is vacuum operated? I know they changed from the earlier 4th gen years but IDK what mine is. info on ls1tech is hard to understand.1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - 6 Speed
