Thanks for the ideas and input Tyler, Michael, and Darren. I will look into some of the ideas that were mentioned.

I was hoping to make the car lite enough that bigger brakes were not needed but that amount would be in the 2400 lbs range which isn't going to happen. Will the 98+ front brakes fit 1992 wheels?( I know the conversion fits iroc wheels).

Be sure to check back over the weekend, my goal is to removed another 20 lbs, have the doors fitting better, and I might have a fiberglass hood to experiment with.

The air pump and AC compressor is more then 20 pounds. Just order a AC delete pulley and run a shorter belt. I have the belt part number you'll need in the garage.

I was able to run the stock belt but routed it a bit different when the smog pump wasn't there. This was on the TPI truck I did though

I am considering modifying the AC/AIR bracket to lower the belt tensioner and A/C delete pulley so I can better execute my heat extractor hood idea to decrease lift and add downforce.

Could always swap over to a simple v belt system and get everything tucked up in front of the block.

LS1 brakes will fit nearly all 16" or larger rims. I know the GTA wheels need a 3-5mm spacer (did they come with a spacer stock?)

Or Brian I am looking into relocating my alternator as well which might help what your thinking.

There's no reason to switch to a v belt.

I am not opposed to running a V-belt, switching pulley's is pretty straight forward but then you have to create a way of adjusting the tension on the belt. Another draw back is your are more likely to through a v-belt. If I switch I would try to use deep groove pullies.

But I would like to investigate this set up Darren found.

darrens looks like the stock brackets with the alternator moved down towards where the smog pump used to be.

                          I'm liking the discussion!

I'd be a bit skeptical on the setup that Darren posted. I'm curious if the spring in that tensioner is flipped?? If I recall correctly, the tensioner normally applies pressure on the flat side of the belt (clockwise tension) and a smooth pulley riding on the grooved side would cause premature wear.

Switching to V belt would mean changing the water pump, serpentines use a reverse rotation pump.

I think I have about $150 into my Bel Air setup. Pullies and brackets.

Good eye Michael! I wonder if they make ribbed idler pulleys.

As to what direction I will go in... I have no idea. I want a build a template hood first and if it looks good I will address the belt situation. If it looks ugly I will just let with be with a cheap idler pulley.

I can pull the one off my car and get some dimensions and compare them to the LSx idler pulleys that I have, which are ribbed.
