      • A big thanks to BigJon88, he is the reason my car weighs 10+lbs less today.

I took pictures but I didn't have a memory card in (I will retrieve them from the built in memory after new years.)
Jon removed some of the brackets that I will not be using the back. The items and weights are below.
We also switched to manual mirrors for a few reason, one being weight savings.
We also removed the console and the window/lock wiring harness and the dome/review mirror harness.

Rear hatch latch mounting bracket and misc brackets 2lbs 5.9oz
        Jack retainer 1lb 1.6oz
        Spare tire bracket 3lbs 1.7oz
Power LH side mirror 2lbs 11.9oz
Manual LH mirror 2lbs 2oz (a weight savings of 9.9 oz!)

        Whats next? Remove A/C box

        • Keeping my eye on this thread. I've been kicking around the idea of getting a cheap road race car here lately

            • What is the best way to remove those brackets? I have a bunch of that shit I can remove from my car. Looks like i need to pick up some manual mirrors too!

A spot weld drill bit works well but there is a good chance you will go further through the bracket and into the body, you will likely end up with a hole to fill in. For the few brackets we did we used a cut off wheel/grinding stone to grind off the spot weld then used a screw driver/air chisel to pop the bracket loose.

Yea, I was amused by the weight comparison of the mirrors. But when an aluminum engine or plexigas windows are not in the buget the ounces add up........eventually. I forget his name but there was a racer who would cut off the excess bolt after it protruded from the nut to save weight.

                  • Well today was better than others... 1 step forward and only 1 step back.
I removed the evaporator and housing but found a rust hole that I will need to repaired before I can put the fenders back on.

                    Evap housing w/ blower motor =12lbs 15.4oz
Outside heater box w/ blower motor (non A/C)= 5lbs 7.5 oz
                    Weight savings= 7lbs 7.9oz

-Repair right wheel well at firewall
-Remove the emissions from the engine.

Easily! I have yet to remove the AIR pump as well.
You will be happy, this car will be getting long tube headers that I removed from a 82. I just don't know what engine I will be using.

They weigh a hell of a lot less than a 700r4

On a serious note, I know where to get complete e-tec 170 heads for $600. Drop 50 pounds, add 50 hp! Friend of mine had them on his 383 for a short while before going to AFR's (which I think he'd sell also)

I would love to swap in a manual transmission but I need to figure out my priorities because if I want to do this right once I am going to need a bigger budget.

I have been considering using a th350 because they are stronger, weight less, and I have three of them in working condition

I recall you saying that in Darren's thread. I was supposed to PM you about them but I never did. 50lbs removed from the nose would help my weight distribution by a 1-2% and I would have a lower curb weight. I have three engines to pick from and I don't know what I want to do

                                - Use the powerful 305
                                - Install a cam in the 350 from the 82 and make it carburated
                                - Install the period correct motor in my 69 corvette and put my 330 HP crate motor in the camaro and make it carburated
I am not sure where these heads would fit best ... Don't the e-tec heads require a different intake manifold?
