forgot to mention. If you are interested in engineering something for a battery relocation I would be willing to help work with you on that project, I'd like to do the same to my car also.-Joel

Sounds good, That project won't start for a few weeks. I'll keep you posted.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View Postforgot to mention. Well last night I went about 10 steps back and two forward.
Darren stopped by and my goal was to replace the drivers fender and front bumper assembly as the headlight bar was damaged.
Now the car has no bumper assembly or fenders.
I want to get the doors to fit better before putting the fenders back on.
The good news is the charcoal canister, cruise control, antenna assembly, AC condenser, manifold set, and receiver dyer are removed.

Whats next? Removing weight from the doors and align doors.Last edited by bri2203; December 1st, 2012, 01:33 PM.

It was only 10 steps back because you went Ape shit on somethings!
When you found the damage to the drivers side door I would really switch that over to the other door you have, and thirdgen doors just dont close perfect, at all... But I see it more as a few steps in the right direction of the current goal. It'll get done but you dont want the whole project done in a month when you have all winter to go!
Looks good in my eyes.sigpic

What's the wager? They close better than any car I've ever owned - zero sag and they don't fight the latch whatsoever.
Edit: Not trying to sidetrack. Rebuild the upper and lower hinges and it will make huge difference in the way the door feels!Last edited by hoogiesngrinderz; December 1st, 2012, 08:27 PM.

what did you do to your front bumper? It seems to have a gaping hole in it in the second picture that wasn't there in the first...

Brian brought out some interesting tools. I heard today that he's gunna have one light turd gen! Wait till he posts up how much weight he took out of the doors alone...
Glad I got the first race lined up with him!sigpic

The bumper cover was being replaced so I didn't mind(maybe enjoyed) destroying it in the process of taking it off.Originally posted by alone_and_insane View Postwhat did you do to your front bumper? On to Yesterdays accomplishments.
I made the commitment, (which I may regret in the future) to lighten up the doors. This amounted to each door weighing 34-35lbs LESS. I still need to remove the front window runs, window felts, and lock cylinders so weight removed from the door will only go up. But I am pleased I was able to remove 70 lbs from the overall weight and the doors seems to work better now that they weigh less.
Below are some of the weights.
fender/door/quarter molding 1lb 5oz
Door Pull w/ screws 3lb 2oz each
Power window regulator 6lb 2oz each
Power door lock actuator 10oz each
Door panel 4lb 4oz each
Window tracks 4lb 2oz each (does not include front run)
Window 15lb 4oz each
NON door related
AC condenser 4lb 9oz
AC receiver drier 1lb 8oz

I was going to keep the doorglass but the drivers window fell off the track and I realized I am making a useless car. Without creature comforts (radio, air conditioning, sound insulation/carpet) I don't see myself using the car often. I do have plans to drive it occasionally during the summer, and to, and more importantly from the tracks I take it to.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View PostNo windows for this car eh? I would like to have a plexiglass hatch and winshield but they are they are not in the budget at this time.
