I did some more reading, looks like they aren't cast iron but rather cast steel. I'd still preheat but spot weld around then run 1" beads (or less) 180* apart to help avoid warp. I'd keep a torch on it between welds and then wrap it in insulation when finished to keep it from cooling down too quick

I'll have to check with my metallurgy guru friend (certified pipe welder) but I think cast steel can be ARC, MIG, and TIG welded w/o any special filler. I'd be mostly worried about heat dissipation causing brittle welds.

No way would I drill the axle flange myself.
Without the proper fixture you'll never get the bolt circle round or concentric.
If you have lug centric rims - that thing will shake you to death all the way down the road.
Take them to a machine shop that can handle them - it'll save you a ton of grief.2000 Formula

I thought 8.8 Exploder rears were 5" wider than 2wd S10/15 rears?
The offsets look different, are the 11" high offset and the 9.5" low?? If so, it will actually work...but I think it would look a little funny.
On a side note, did you get the wheels from a guy named Brad? I think he ran that setup on his Iroc when he switched to a 4th gen rear
