  • Well the engine bay used to look like this:

Then it happened on the way home from Lake Orion last night. The tow job this morning:

Oil and rubber mix all over the damn engine compartment!! The steering pump pully and seal took a dump off making one hell of a mess!!! Were we not just talking about this in another thread?

I will get into it tomorrow after a day of visiting guests.

    • Happened to Red Alert, pulley is pressed on if it starts to wobble it just works its self off. We got new pulley and its been fine since. It seems as it wobbles front seal on pump lets fluid out. we did not replace front seal and its has not leaked.
The joys of an older car!! LOL

            • Phew - when I saw it on the flat bed, I was thinking much worse than the pump pulley, to be honest! So in the grand scheme of things, could have been much worse but sucks either way.

Get 'er fixed, Jim and boys, I know you guys will do work and make it good as new in no time!

                        • Well....., there will be no more Woodward cruising or any cruising for this bird this season!

As the story goes....... Some spirited driving was happening on the way home from Woodward last week between Conrad (Z06) and me. So as I approached the driveway of the homestead, a miss was detected. Pulled plugs the following week and discovered a suspicious one. Replaced all plugs seeing that they already had 2500 miles on them, !

Drove it and still a slight miss. Pulled rocker covers and everything seem in order, no bent push rods etc.
Then yesterday took a compression test and found #7 cylinder to be only 28lbs.! Oh SHIT!

This morning set the car up for the worst case.

I am totally baffled as to where the broken pieces of the piston disappeared to. They must have pulverized to bits because the turbo has no sign of damage as you would think.

Oh well......... back to the drawing board!
